The second book was better
Revisado: 09-06-23
I read the first 2 books so I didn’t hear the first narrator, but after listening to this narrator I found that her voice portrayed the idea of Fayre that I had after reading the first 2 books. I just felt that this book was lacking after the first 2. There were times that I was legit bored with the story. And other times that I was thoroughly confused. But it was still a wonderful book!

Historia
An activist attorney is killed in a cute little L.A. trolley called Angels Flight, far from Harry Bosch's Hollywood turf. But the case is so explosive - and the dead man's enemies inside the LAPD are so numerous - that it falls to Harry to solve it. Now the streets are super heating. Harry's year-old Vegas marriage is unraveling. And the hunt for a killer is leading Harry to another high-profile L.A. murder case, one where every cop had a motive. The question is, did any have the guts?

Good story-lousy narration
Revisado: 07-13-23
I did not care for the narration on this. I felt that the ominous inflection of the narrator was misplaced at many moments in the book.

Often confusing
Revisado: 09-08-20
Not sure if I was missing part of the story but a few times the author seemed to say something like we knew already but I had never heard it before. It was often confusing but that may have been part of the charm. The twists and turns of the plot were most entertaining. It was quite the mystery!

Historia
In Before He Hunts, victims are turning up dead in FBI Special Agent Mackenzie White’s home state of Nebraska - all shot in the back of the head, and all bearing the card “Barker Antiques.” The same card her father’s murderer left on his body years ago. With a sudden urgency in the present, the time has finally come for Mackenzie to face her ghosts, to face her darkest past, and to find her father’s killer. But her trip back down memory lane may take her to places she’d rather not see, and to discoveries she’d rather not find.

Poor choice of narrator for this story.
Revisado: 03-28-20
I didn’t agree with the choice of narrator for the first 7 books (why an English accent? The main character is from Nebraska and works in DC?) but this new narrator is totally wrong for this story. Her voice is very nice and relaxing. This is not the story for this voice. She sounds like she is whispering and her voice trails off at the end of every sentence. I can’t even listen to it, I have to buy the book hard copy and read it that way.

Frustrating
Revisado: 05-02-19
I have never read a book where I actually wanted the heroine to get caught and go to jail rather than to win over the bad guys. So many things that Faith did were so ridiculously stupid, it wasn’t even credulous. A 12 year old would have more common sense, I was frustrated just listening to it for the first 3/4 of the book.
However I have to give props to the writing in that the killer was trying to make our hero go crazy, and it was written so well that I was experiencing anxiety myself just following along. If the author wanted the readers to feel Faith’s anxiety, it worked well.
Toward the end all the different twists and all the little innuendos of each of the main characters brought excitement and intrigue back to the storyline.
Not a huge fan of the very end at the cabin, I think that would have been better as an epilogue.
