Historia
Any travel guide to Rome will urge visitors to go the Colosseum, but none answers a simple question: Why is it called the Colosseum? The History of Rome in 12 Buildings: A Travel Companion to the Hidden Secrets of the Eternal City is compelling, concise, and fun, and takes you behind the iconic buildings to reveal the hidden stories of the people that forged the Roman Empire.

Fascinating history lesson
Revisado: 11-29-19
I’m married to a Roman and have a second home there. On every visit I find something new to explore, as Rome never runs out of places to explore. This book has given me my next itinerary; I have been to the Roman Forum countless times yet never had such an extensive guide. I can’t wait for my next trip. I enjoyed the Audible version but will have to get the printed version to reap all the benefits.
Well done - bravo!

Historia
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.

Mandatory course before a trip to Egypt
Revisado: 10-25-18
So much information packed into this course, taught by Professor Bob Brier in a colorful and fascinating narrative. My trip to Egypt was enhanced a thousand-fold through the course, and I often had more information than our Egyptologist guide. Before visiting the sites I listened again to the pertinent chapter, and again after I got home. Go to Egypt, but listen to this course first!
