Historia
How can we live our lives when everything seems to fall apart—when we are continually overcome by fear, anxiety, and pain? The answer, Pema Chödrön suggests, might be just the opposite of what you expect. Here, in her most beloved and acclaimed work, Pema shows that moving toward painful situations and becoming intimate with them can open up our hearts in ways we never before imagined. Drawing from traditional Buddhist wisdom, she offers life-changing tools for transforming suffering and negative patterns into habitual ease and boundless joy.

Too Heady, Not Real World Help
Revisado: 07-27-24
What does not resonate with me is the author discussing ways of thinking that don’t take into account our biological humanity, our human desires, our messy humanness. The advice is all very heady and above it all. As if accepting and not resisting is the fix for everything, every feeling. I appreciate it, but I don’t buy it.

Historia
The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

Simple Wisdom Beautifully Presented
Revisado: 06-01-24
Short, yet packed with wisdom. Reader’s accent is fine, but made understanding a few words here and there tricky but by no means a deal breaker. Recommended

Intelligent Easy To Understand And Helpful
Revisado: 05-09-24
I’m not sure why some people complained about the reader on this recording, I found her voice perfectly fine. The book itself is excellent, with a biological perspective on grief that I have not heard about until now.

Pretty Good, Pretty Brutal
Revisado: 12-21-23
You don’t really care for the characters, but some good scenes and fine writing. Some clunky dialogue. A little of it is in Spanish, so unless you know the language you’re out of luck!

Great Southern Gothic Horror
Revisado: 12-15-23
I wasn’t a huge fan of McCarthy, I like The Road, but I hated Blood Meridian, which was among the worst books I ever read. But I loved Sunset Limited and he won me back with this one. Brutal, vivid, and pretty damn great.

White is a professor whose seemingly enviable existence of relative ease has left him nonetheless in despair. Black, an ex-con and ex-addict, is the more hopeful of the menthough he is just as desperate to convince White of the power of faith as White is desperate to deny it.

Boring Story And An Annoying Performance
Revisado: 11-13-23
Overall an annoying experience. It has an interesting idea and started in a promising way but got boring to the point that, 3 hours in, I felt obliged to finish but couldn’t wait for it to be over. The reading was done in a low fast murmur, with the sections of the chapters just running into each other without pause or delineation which got confusing at times. One character (the barber) was performed with an annoying, hard to follow voice as if the actor took novocaine. The stumbles in the reading weren’t even edited out, the actor just kept going. Blah!

Great villains, wonderful main character. Having read King my whole life, I could pretty much guess what’s going to happen next, but that didn’t lessen my enjoyment or interest in the story too much. Great stuff.

Historia
A sensational best seller when it appeared in 1986, The Garden of Eden is the last uncompleted novel of Ernest Hemingway, which he worked on intermittently from 1946 until his death in 1961. Set on the Côte d'Azur in the 1920s, it is the story of a young American writer, David Bourne, his glamorous wife, Catherine, and the dangerous, erotic game they play when they fall in love with the same woman.

Great, I Loved It!
Revisado: 06-07-23
Hemingway took chances with this, both narratively and with his image as a tough guy. Very nice, entertaining reading by the narrator. It took me awhile to get around to reading his unfinished books, but I’ve greatly enjoyed this and Islands In The Stream. Neither feel incomplete and blow away most other writing out there.

You probably haven't noticed them. But they've noticed you. They notice everything. That's their job. Sitting quietly in a nondescript car outside a bank making note of the tellers' work habits. Lagging a few car lengths behind the Brinks truck on its daily rounds. Surreptitiously jiggling the handle of an unmarked service door at the racetrack. They're heisters.

Tarantino mentioned this in his “Cinema Speculation” book (a great read, by the way). Awesome, morally ambiguous hard boiled thriller with excellent performance and fun characterizations by the reader.
