I've been a fan of the original Star Trek for nearly as long as it's been around. I know all of the characters and story lines from the series and have read a number of books over the years, so I was looking forward to this one. It brings back a number of characters who appeared in early episodes of the original series as well as most of the regular ones that everyone know and love. Unfortunately, it starts out slow and I found it boring. By the end of Chapter 3, I was ready to cut my loses and stop listening to it, but I had a lot of driving to do and didn't have another book downloaded on my phone, so I kept listening. Thankfully, it started getting better so I stuck it out, but I can't say that I would recommend this to anyone out there. The story constantly jumps around to different time frames and covers stories that are very disjointed. Towards the end of the book you realize why it's written this way, but it really makes it hard to understand what is happening and be able to follow along. Oh, and when the story should end, it goes on and on with more disjointed stuff that has nothing to do with the main story, so for someone like me who just wanted this to end, it dragged on and on.

On a good side, though, I really enjoyed the narrator, Robert Petkoff. He did an excellent job creating different voices that sounded close enough to the actors we all know that I could visualize them in my mind saying those very lines. I would definitely listen to another Star Trek story that he narrates. Just not this one.

I read Band of Brothers before the mini-series came out and have read several books by members of Easy Company since. This is by far my favorite. Both men have a wonderful sense of humor that kept me laughing throughout, but they also do a very good job of conveying the pain experienced by those who experience war. If I wasn’t laughing my ass off, I was trying my hardest to keep from crying. Listening to their stories, was like having them in my living room hanging out shooting the breeze. It was a wonderful experience and made me long for more. Bill Guarnere and Babe Heffron, thank you for sharing your experiences with the world.
