If you expect a rational story, move past this series.
By ep 3 we have been told that the space program allows for a long term mission with just two people and one of them goes to explore in an untested bit of tech.
Even with the "money issue" they bring up as a reason, there is that voice in my head that refuses to see this as more than a story for kids.
The performance and the sound is amazing. Just a shame the talent was wasted on this story.
push the timeline a few more decades and have a Base orbiting Jupiter or something...

Sending two people on this kind of mission with the tech level we are presented is just not something I can suspended in my mind. it ruins most of this story for me. It is a bit weak in the story and dialogue. It is worth the production and performance.

As I enter ep 4 I just can't imagine this ever happening. It makes no sense that a person with painic attacks is ever allowed on a deep space mission with just one other person. Neither of them Medical or anything related.

This needs to be added to the young adult library as no adult is taking this seriously.

I may finish the series and add notes as I go.

This is just not good or well thought out.

ep 6 just doubles down on the stupid. Not only do they give an example of why more than 2 people would be on the mission... but seriously goes into this mission being the longest ever done and keep pressing cost/discovery and place the crew as disposable.

Even 80s cartoons were more logical.

As ep 9 attempts to bring a drama to the table, I just do a hard eye roll. No rescue mission?! So this universe has ZERO connection to the entire history and modern practice of all space exploration.

The set up needed to be an accident or external events like war or the mother ship being destroyed.

As the story gives us a protagonist that would never be sent on this type of mission. We also get an unreasonable idea that NASA would send two people to Saturn with no follow up mission or something else to cover any events...

The performance and sound mixing are the only things keeping me here.

This ends and skips all concept of an ending....

Overall a fun listen even if it is a terrible and uninformed concept. The static characters are alive only by way of the actors and sound mixing.

Hamfisted commentary on social gripes and cultural stereotypes is very tiresome.

This feels like a really bad story of a youth that is part of a master race of new humans and his endless luck and seemingly limitless power.
The story jerks through the growth of two mutant kids through adulthood. Each child experiences a typical male story of adventure and a typical female story of forced drama and captivity.
It smacks deeply of someone wishing to make a case for a super race that is seeding themselves within the frightened and paranoid human race.
I imagine people that were sympathetic to Nazi ideals would have eaten this book up when written.
There are a number of books surrounding this I will never read. This book is good for young readers of about 14+ with historical and social understanding of the time it was written. Going in with no information on the history or time of writing, you may think this written by an incel.

Pulp Speculative Fiction from the 1950s and 1960s doesn't often age very well. While the story is entertaining in a way there is a lack of a real journey in the center of a journey.
There is also not too subtle reference to ethnic stereotypes and a serious white savior issue.
The story end is clunky and is supposed to make you think. The human still wants to save his friend and his friend still wants his world. All we really get is world building with no real drama or danger or development in characters.

here you will find the basic story used by many over the years and most notable in 90s sci-fi and political TV.
The 'twist' phones itself in early but the ride is more about the characters and the world building needed for the next book to be what it is.

This is the kind of writing you find in someone so thrilled with themselves. I simply can't listen to this. It comes across as pretentious and juvenile.

The story seems to suggest the reader would be offended at the idea of a science based understanding of what happens after death. Following a white savior that literally goes out of his way to be an idiot. The setup feels forced and improbable even with the long way we go to explain how it all is supposed to work. Heinlein inspired characters inhabit a bland and soulless world of people that have to have money and influence to have an afterlife and even a possible immortal life path. The concept of a body being interchangeable with a mind has been done in better ways by better writers. The ending also insults women and the idea of love. A wonderful performance by Pinchot is the only reason I kept through the end.
When released it likely felt innovative and has had influence on similar religious tinted sci-fi by way of core concept and some of the drama.
A story to pass if you want a good story. Go for it if you are interested in a story of a willfully ignorant lead and empty bland women. Also interesting to people looking at the history of strange science fiction that plays with religion.

More of a PBS level "lecture" series. The points made are open doors to follow after listening.

Not bad but very shallow. Gratuitous use of the word "should".
