Another great modern noir!

Season 1 was amazing. But WOW!!
Season 2 is so good. The plot is a little more complex and all the different threads are a little more intertwined than in season 1, and the payoff isn’t so showy, but such is noir.

Classic noir, modern setting. So good.

Unlicensed is a detective story set in LA and surrounding areas. It is a solid take on modern noir.
The voice actors do an amazing job giving you a sense of the characters. Like you’re really hearing them speak or tell you a story. A fantastic performance all around.
Unlicensed hits all the classic noir checkboxes: a girl walks into the office, looking for the morally grey main character/detective who is just doing their best to help people in a world stacked against them; a twisty plot, eventually involving the upper echelons of society; an ending (spoiler) where justice is served somewhat ambiguously, and not necessarily according to the law.
I love the modern setting, because sometimes noir can feel like medieval fantasy, the setting is so far removed from how people live their lives now. But Unlicensed somehow romanticized rush hour traffic jams. Just excellent story telling.

Really good story

The only reason, and I mean the only reason I’m giving this a four star on performance was because of the no-so-great Irish accent.
But the story was so engaging and the many of characters were well developed and multi-dimensional. Mike built a whole world in less than eight hours. I am dying for the sequel.
