I’ve been a long time fan of the Bess Crawford series, and this installment is so very good. You won’t be disappointed. One question, though, when is the next adventure going to be made available?

Excellent - not the typical Dick Francis racing work

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Simon Prebble was excellent, as always. The plot revolves around wine, and not racehorses.

Very disappointed
Revisado: 08-13-22
I had really been looking forward to a new Isabel Dalhousie book. However, the book felt like a lecture, and the author seemed to be ticking off various boxes of liberal thought. Sigh. Will be returning this one.

Wasn't what I was expecting
Revisado: 07-25-20
First the good - the story was great. Properly suspenseful,
What I didn't like - others have mentioned the narration. I think the later books in this series have a different narrator. I sped the listening speed up a bit and that helped immensely.
Also, it's a rougher listen than the Andy Carpenter books. There are so few F-bombs, if any, in the Carpenter books that I don't have a problem listening to them most of the time. But this book has a lot of them, so if that bothers you, as it does me, then you might want to skip this series. I have young people around me all the time and it's not for young ears.

Historia
A delightful afternoon stroll turns to disaster when the guests of an artists’ retreat in the French mountains spot the body of a man at the bottom of a cliff. Amongst them is Melissa Craig, who, binoculars at the ready, suddenly finds herself at the center of a very puzzling mystery. Was it an accident, or was he pushed? Her suspicions are confirmed when another body is found days later in almost the exact same spot. It can’t be a coincidence; someone in this idyllic French village is up to no good, and it’s up to her to find out who.

Could be just me . . .
Revisado: 01-09-20
Normally, I really enjoy Melissa Craig books audio books. With this one, however, the French accents and the names of the different characters and locations read in French made it difficult for me to keep up. Joan Walker is an excellent narrator, and I'm suspecting that she is fluent in French, but as I am not, this wasn't enjoyable (to me).

At hand is the authentication of a journal purportedly penned by 18th-century botanist and explorer Archibald Menzies. Love this series, but...
Revisado: 07-31-18
I'm enjoying this series. I'm happy to have found a basically clean series, with a happy marriage and interesting story lines and characters. The one issue I have with this particular book is the minor character of the hick, rich guy from Texas who wants to destroy the ecosystem. All those stereotypes rolled into one person, Sigh. That is such a worn out theme, and of course, Pru is not "one of those people". As a Southerner, I do get tired of writers resorting to stereotypes of people from my part of the world.

Revisado: 07-10-18
This series was recommended by a fellow cozy mystery group member. I was looking for some safe listening material for myself that wouldn't offend the often present ears of my young grandchildren. I got through the first three or so, but there is a considerable amount of swearing. I will be returning this.

This series just gets better
Revisado: 02-15-18
I love the Inspector Rutledge books. I've listened to them all, and this one did not disappoint. The only problem is waiting for the next one, but the wait is always worth it.
I worry a bit about Ian - does he ever sleep eight hours straight?
In this installment, again, unable to sleep, Ian decides on the spur of the moment to get out of London, and stumbles upon a murder scene along the road. As both a witness and an Inspector, he has to stake his claim to the case with Scotland Yard in order to solve it. The Gatekeeper has many twists and turns, and keeps you guessing until almost the very end. As usual, Hamish is in the background, alternately warning Ian of danger, and then tormenting him psychologically.
Okay, so when is the next book coming out?

I have started so many books that couldn't hold my interest but this one was truly different. The character development is excellent - not just the protagonist but the supporting characters as well. I don't think you will be disappointed if you decide to try this audio book.
