Historia
On January 28, 1742, a ramshackle vessel of patched-together wood and cloth washed up on the coast of Brazil. Inside were thirty emaciated men, barely alive, and they had an extraordinary tale to tell. They were survivors of His Majesty’s Ship the Wager, a British vessel that had left England in 1740 on a secret mission during an imperial war with Spain. While the Wager had been chasing a Spanish treasure-filled galleon known as “the prize of all the oceans,” it had wrecked on a desolate island off the coast of Patagonia.

Chilling tale of survival
Revisado: 01-16-24
A well written and narrated true tale of men against the sea and hostile nature, reminiscent of Shackleton's story of the crew of Endurance but without the transformationl leadership of a Shackleton.

Teenager's idea of how adults behave.
Revisado: 12-31-23
Simply terrible. Everyone confesses when confronted. Detective brings author to all interviews. Pedophilia is just fine in the view of the narrator character, even admirable. Dialogue incredibly stilted and unbelievable. Everyone uses the same manner of expression. Everyone drinks lemonade...in New Hampshire. The ridiculously trite and cringeworthy Jewish mother. Enough! I can't take it anymore!!!

Interesting take on the Grail legend
Revisado: 08-09-23
Well written, erudite perspective on the Grail mythos. The reader's presentation of the American's speech left something to be desired. She sounded like Bugs Bunny.

Historia
Brandi Maxwell is living the dream as an intern at prestigious New York fashion house Simon Van Doren. Except “living the dream” looks more like scrubbing puke from couture dresses worn by hard-partying models and putting up with microaggressions from her white colleagues. Still, she can’t help but fangirl over Simon’s it-girl daughter, Taylor. Until one night, at a glamorous Van Doren party, when Brandi overhears something she shouldn’t have, and her fate becomes dangerously intertwined with Taylor’s.

Historia
Howard Carter has just made one of the great discoveries of all time, the unveiling of Tutankhamun's tomb. At the same time, Egyptologist Ralph Trilipush finds himself in a slightly less spectacular position. He has staked everything on a scrap of hieroglyphic pornography. Halfway around the world, an Australian detective sets off on a globetrotting quest to find a murderer. Or two. Or three. These events, seemingly unrelated, are about to collide in a spectacular yet utterly unpredictable fashion.

Deus ex machina.
Revisado: 05-16-23
This book jumped the shark. About three quarters through this novel it became absurd. An unbelievable and impossible scenario occurred which rendered the whole story unreadable. Unfortunately I read it to the end. Don't bother!

Historia
In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.
