Historia
No electricity. No running water. No food. No end in sight. If life as you knew it changed in an instant, would you be prepared? In A. American's first novel, Going Home, listeners were introduced to Morgan Carter, the resourceful, tough-as-nails survivalist who embarks on a treacherous 250-mile journey across Florida following the collapse of the nation's power grid. Now reunited with his loving wife and daughters in this follow-up to Going Home, Morgan knows that their happiness is fleeting, as the worst is yet to come.

Great book, irritating pauses
Revisado: 08-24-24
Cannot fault the writer, although he doesn't really discuss the spiritual side of the scenario. Most irritating was the reader's way of pausing mid sentence, and going down at the end of almost every sentence.

Historia
Good, modern, civilized Western men today are expected to think like "citizens of the world" - obligated to everyone and no one. Natural, meaningful tribal connections have been substituted with synthetic, disposable consumer identities. Without a sense of who they are and what group they have a place in, modern men are becoming increasingly detached, disoriented, vulnerable, and ever more easily manipulated.

Overacted, inauthentic, soulless
Revisado: 09-11-22
Gruff and hard nosed. Outdated model of masculinity. Evidently not my cup of tea.

Historia
In 2007, the Center for Automation in Nanobiotech (CAN) outlined the hardware and software platform that would one day allow robots smaller than human cells to make medical diagnoses, conduct repairs, and even self-propagate. In the same year, a simple pill, it had been discovered, could wipe out the memory of any traumatic event. At almost the same moment in humanity's broad history, mankind had discovered the means for bringing about its utter downfall - and the ability to forget it ever happened.

Dry and political
Revisado: 08-23-20
Way too dry for a apocalyptic novel. Nothing happened in first 1.5h so I gave up listening.

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Greg Dixon is living a nightmare. Attending boarding school outside of Boston, he is separated from his family when a pandemic strikes. His classmates and teachers are dead, rotting in a dormitory-turned-morgue steps from his room. The nights are getting colder, and his food has run out. The last message from his father is to get away from the city and to meet at his grandparents' town in remote New Hampshire.

Pleasant but uneventful
Revisado: 08-23-20
For an apocalyptic story, nothing really went wrong. Kept waiting for the S to really HTF but it never did. Still, it bubbled along quite enjoyably nonetheless. Voice talent was amazing.

Historia
There is a music in us, an inner voice which is audible to our teachers, but not always to us. We can’t express this music using other’s words or other’s ways of seeing things. Yet the expression of it is the vital thing; it’s not enough to embody it - we have to be able to communicate that truth. Daido Roshi encourages us to "let our bones dance", to respond, and to sing with others in such a way that it creates a voice that doesn’t belong to anyone - our collective voice. That is true expression, true intimacy.

This book seemed like a book about dancing when I read the synopsis but in fact it was a Buddhist sermon.

the book contained helpful enough content, let down by narrator's uneven pacing, making it hard to listen to.

Painfully academic.
Revisado: 10-23-15
Note to self: While C S Lewis writes in an amazing breadth of genres, his autobiographies are not your cup of tea.
