Poor choice of narrators
Revisado: 02-12-25
American literature read by British narrators.
I got through the first few stories, trying to hang on. But in the end, I just couldn't take the monotone Brit pronunciations and had to give up. To my British friends, imagine Sherlock Holmes narrated by a disinterested American.

Historia
Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Just bad
Revisado: 12-19-23
I generally love Reacher stories, but the depiction of the FBI as a bunch of idiots and the terrible narration were too much to take.

I loved this as a teenager in the eighties, but after listening 42 years later, it doesn't hold up. It's like sitting through a viewing of Porky's. You get a jumble of made up names and places as if you have been transported into a Theodore Geisel world with a dash of sarcasm. Not at all like Orwell's 1984. That was a riot.

Good story, bad ending. Leave politics out.
Revisado: 05-14-22
I really enjoyed the build up of this story, but was disappointed in the ending. It rang of old Steven King copouts like the "have if God" in The Stand.
I felt the tie-ins of 2020-21 -- COVID and Trump -- were just thrown in there for the hell of it. None of the information played any role in the mystery or resolution. Please drop this line, and focus on the righteous twists and turns in resolution that made The Lincoln Lawyer such a great book.

Historia
The end of history. The new world order. Fine phrases, but as Jack Ryan is about to discover, history isn't dead yet - and only the nature of the threat is new. In peacetime, a new enemy readies a strike not only at America's territory, but at the heart of her economy, and National Security Advisor Jack Ryan must prepare an untested president to meet the challenge.

Abridged, bad vocal characters
Revisado: 01-27-20
it's too bad you can't get a good version of this book. i didn't realize this was abridged until after I bought it. The other version is the full book, but monotone reading. I should have just reread the book.
