It a humorous story but with some cons
Revisado: 12-03-24
it's a book that if you want to fall asleep or you want to listen to on the road it's perfect, but if you don't like the F-bomb being dropped at least twice in a story then this is not for you. This one story has like 3 F words a chapter and sure it's funny and narrator is great for this, but It's language is straight out of the garbage. For example there is one chapter where it says "SUCK IT MOTHER..." you get the idea. Anyway just a warning to people who don't like cussing a lot, but if you like a LOT of cussing hey to each their own

Historia
A gleefully gruesome look at the actual science behind the most outlandish, cartoonish, and impossible deaths you can imagine. What would happen if you took a swim outside a deep-sea submarine wearing only a swimsuit? How long could you last if you stood on the surface of the sun? How far could you actually get in digging a hole to China? Paul Doherty, senior staff scientist at San Francisco's famed Exploratorium Museum, and writer Cody Cassidy explore the real science behind these and other fantastical scenarios.

great book
Revisado: 05-29-24
the second chapter's title is totally relatable
the narrator's voice is a little flat for my taste but perfect for this book
and I always wanted to know why sharks attack humans but now I know
this is more of a historical book than a scientific book
I also wanted to know why we needed to sleep now I know🙂🙂🙂

Historia
In August of 1914, the British ship Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world. Lansing describes how the men survived a 1,000-mile voyage in an open boat across the stormiest ocean on the globe and an overland trek through forbidding glaciers and mountains.

True Underdog Story
Revisado: 05-26-16
What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He brings such emotion to the book and yet you don't realize it because he's not overdramatic in his reading. This book has very little dialogue but it didn't matter. What the reader brought to this story made it come to life. I loved hearing him read this book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Shackleton introduced himself to the guy who thought him and his crew had died and that the man turned away and started to cry. Oh, I'm getting teary eyed thinking about it
Any additional comments?
Nature can be a harsh mistress and what these men went through I would not wish on anyone. They were truly underdogs as you can't battle the elements. You just have to survive the best way you can. This book makes you want to cry but also makes you want to cheer. I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Nobody knew where it came from. Nobody knew why it came. When an eight-foot-tall man made of stone appears in the middle of a busy city center one July afternoon, two-bit (and antisocial) reporter Andy Pointer assumes it's just a publicity stunt. Indeed, so does everyone else...until the Stone Man begins to walk, heading silently through the wall of the nearest building, flattening it, and killing several people inside as a result.

Got A Couple of Hours Into It....
Revisado: 02-29-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Love the sci-fi aspect, could not stand the strong profanity
What was most disappointing about Luke Smitherd’s story?
This is my peeve, but I cannot stand the constant use of the 'F' word. And that word is quite prevalent in this book.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator was wonderful, he read quite well.

The Bell Jar

Historia
The Bell Jar chronicles the crack-up of Esther Greenwood: brilliant, beautiful, enormously talented, and successful but slowly going under - maybe for the last time. Sylvia Plath masterfully draws the reader into Esther's breakdown with such intensity that Esther's insanity becomes completely real and even rational, as probable and accessible an experience as going to the movies. Such deep penetration into the dark and harrowing corners of the psyche is an extraordinary accomplishment and has made The Bell Jar a haunting American classic.

DIdn't know what to expect
Revisado: 02-04-16
What made the experience of listening to The Bell Jar the most enjoyable?
The unexpected chuckles it gave me due to the point of view and opinions of the main character
What about Maggie Gyllenhaal’s performance did you like?
There is such a cynicism, derision, yet innocence in the voice of Maggie Gyllenhaal as she narrates this story. It fits perfectly the emotions that are meant to be conveyed to the listener.
Any additional comments?
Only half-way through this book, but did not expect to enjoy it like I am. I have never read anything by Sylvia Plath though I have read about her short-lived life, but I did not expect the book to be as dark as it is. If you're looking for a mood lifter, this is not it.
