HUGE disappointment to this baseball fan

I love the premise of using the Sox-Yankees rivalry -- especially the insane 1978 year -- as a backdrop for a father-son relationship. But I couldn't stomach this book after forcing myself through 40 percent of it and waiting for something, ANYTHING, to happen. Couple that with Duchovny's monotone noir detective movie narration and I just had to BAIL. Life is just too short.

Uninspiring and Tired

I loved the premise of this book, but it drags on and on trying too hard to force lessons out of mediocre, overwritten anecdotes. I cut bait after the halfway mark. At the risk of being a cliched critic, consider this the 101st Day of Rejection.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I was curious to hear Stephen Tobolowsky's essays after enjoying his characters on the Goldberg's (principal) and Silicon Valley (Jack Barker) and was delighted to find he's one of the best writers/storytellers I've ever encountered. Not hyperbole. Am seeking out every one of his podcasts now!

Andrew Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing).

Love all of Hiaasen's work, but this one was mediocre (for Hiaasen).

I highly recommend Razor Girl instead! This book just felt like Hiaasen was going through the motions. Narrator was fantastic though.

For once, an audiobook narrator who does the story justice!

I love this book and read it years ago along with seeing the movie. I decided to re-experience the story again before visiting Israel and I was thrilled with narrator Paul Michael's delivery. Highly recommended before any Israel trip!
