it’s ok
Revisado: 07-03-23
good premise for a story. But the book has a feeling of being written in a hurry. Things happen and you don’t know who some of the characters are. There seems to be a lot of backstory. That just isn’t developed making it relatively shallow. Still, I’ll probably listen to the sequels to find out what happens.

Historia
On a desolate beach in far northern Scotland, the winter storms have been washing up all manner of things since time began. But buried in the centre of one smaller iceberg is a shard of ancient Viking pottery telling a partial tale of a hidden mysterious island beyond the ice and mist, that was home to a great treasure and even greater horrors. Thawing in the same block of ice was a rotting flap of skin that refused to be identified but had similar skin patterns to a creature not seen for 100 million years.

Couldn’t finish
Revisado: 02-11-23
This was the deal of the day so I do not feel cheated, they are always a gamble. A modern day take off of Jules Verne’s Mysterious Island this is just not good. When you read fantasy and sci-fi you always expect unbelievable and strange and that’s why you read it. But you want your characters to be somewhat believable (even if they have superpowers). The characters in this book are cardboard cutouts. Depressed ex CIA operative, gorgeous and mysterious woman, brainy scientist, sidekicks, monsters, and big, mean, murderous villains. I was ready to accept shallow but then the heroes turned downright stupid half way through the book. Couldn’t finish, wasn’t even worth the discounted daily deal price. Narration was mediocre too.

Couldn’t get through it.
Revisado: 05-19-22
The first two books were fair. Not well written, but they were free and so I plowed through them. This book is just plain awful. I don’t really care what happens to the characters anymore. I don’t really care what happens to the bad guys, or the good guys. This is just a badly written book. I can’t finish it. I guess that it is why it is in the free library. You get what you paid for.

Historia
In this thrilling second book of the Earthborn trilogy, Lucas and Asha have survived the decimation of Earth at the hands of the invading Xalans and seek safe haven with their enemy's true foes, the Sorans. They find a lush planet inhabited by a civilization far more advanced than their own, waging a seemingly endless war against a constantly evolving enemy. The Sorans call the pair of them the "Earthborn", and they're welcomed as heroes, almost as gods.

Second book is OK, not as good as first.
Revisado: 05-19-22
As the first book, this is not well written. Juvenile in many ways. Still little character development. And it seems that side plots are thrown in at the whim of the author . He is also using the word decimated more in this than the last one. Pet peeve, look it up. It’s not what he thinks it is.

Historia
The Earth lies in ruins in the aftermath of an extraterrestrial invasion, the land devastated by a desperate war with no winners between mankind and a race of vicious, intelligent creatures. The seas are drying up while the atmosphere corrodes and slowly cooks any life remaining on the now desolate rock. Food is scarce, trust even more so, and the only people left alive all have done horrific things to stay that way.

Revisado: 05-19-22
The story premise for this book isn’t bad. But as another reviewer noted, this is not a well written book. The characters are fairly one dimensional. It is better than the next two books I can tell you that. One thing that really has irked me is the authors use of the word decimated. I think he means destroyed. He should look it up, or at least the editor should. I assume there was an editor.

In the fourth book of the Star Force series, Kyle Riggs has freed Earth from the chains of the Macros - but at what cost? The Macros no longer trust him. Good Story, Inconsistent Implementation
Revisado: 06-11-13
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Probably not. The story and series plot line is great. I will complete the series because I want to see how it ends. But the writing is inconsistent. The main character continually forgets things that occurred only moments before. For example, in one section he receives an email saying someone is coming to talk to him. The person shows up and he is completely surprised. Its as if sections were written at different times and then assembled without checking for consistency. Another example, a certain ship is destroyed. That ship shows up as completely intact and unharmed in the next book.
Plus the main character is inconsistent and from any practical perspective an idiot. He does everything on his own and believes he is the only one who can save the world. The fact that he does though, seems to be almost by accident. Every once in a while he even throws a temper tantrum. But believe it or not, he is still likable.
The narration is passable, but too melodramatic. One moment you're getting a blow by blow description of battle and the next a swarmy description of the universe and the future. Then the next chapter begins. It's disconcerting but not unbearable. Bottom line I'm hooked even with all these issues. Not sure I'd recommend to another though.
