Easy to understand tips for parents and athletes
Revisado: 08-29-23
If you are interested in tackling the mental side of your game, this book is a helpful tool to start your journey. Ms. Alston shares stories that are relatable and does an effective job of balancing advice for both the athlete and parent. The focus is definitely on the high school athlete, but there are useful tools for collegiate athletes and coaches as well. Everything presented is easily digestible, easy to understand and can be applied quickly. A great listen on a road trip with your athlete(s) heading to a tournament.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Great listen full of laughs and wisdom
Revisado: 12-02-20
I really enjoyed taking a journey through Matthew’s life. His wins and losses and his signature way of framing them in an easily digestible manner to wring out all the goodness in them was impressive. This book made me laugh out loud and pause it at times to think through his notes to self for myself. Being a fan helps but it definitely isn’t a requirement to enjoy this book.

A wonderful book and a tear jerker
Revisado: 02-21-20
As someone whose father is a retired college basketball coach and who grew up knowing and respecting the teachings of John Wooden because of my dad, this book really hit home. I don’t know if everyone will relate to this book like I did but Kareem’s writing and story telling would have made Wooden proud. My dad is slowly dying from Alzheimer’s and this book just helped me take a walk down so many fond memories of traveling and being with his teams as a young adult. If you have ever had an influential coach-especially in basketball-you can’t help but love this book.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school - we systematically get the answers wrong. In Factfulness, professor of international health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two longtime collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens.

Revisado: 12-28-19
Eye opening and useful tools in a time when it is more difficult than ever to truly understand the world around you. This is is a book I will have to revisit and listen/read (had to buy the actual book too!) to truly put into practice everything. This will be a work in progress for sure for myself, but at least I’m trying and that is a step in the right direction.

Laugh and learn on this kick ass musical journey
Revisado: 02-26-19
This was just fan.......tastic. I have been a fan since high school (early 90’s peeps what up) and many of their songs have been my personal anthems through the years (both young and older). Hearing the tales told through their words as well as all of the guest narrators was awesome. I only stopped listening to play old songs and look up so many of the songs that inspired them that I didn’t know. So many bands and songs are mentioned that i almost feel like i need the hand held book to continue my musical education. Thank you for making 12 hours in a car supremely enjoyable!

If you love learning about random facts...
Revisado: 02-18-19
I think you must have a love of learning to enjoy this book. Easy to listen to for the most part (one part with a faux movie screenplay was a little much for me) and is full of lots of tidbits that might one day end up on a trivia bar night. Enjoyable and most definitely educational.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Thoughtful and thought provoking memoir
Revisado: 02-02-19
I found myself on quite the emotional roller coaster while listening to this book. Be prepared to cringe and shake your head in disbelief and outrage. The narrator did a fantastic job with the different voices of Tara’s family which really brought the story to life. I found the 1.25 speed to be perfect and didn’t feel like I lost a bit of the story telling.

Historia
At some point, every one of us embarks on a journey to find love. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with the hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection. This seems standard now, but it’s wildly different from what people did even just decades ago. Single people today have more romantic options than at any point in human history. With technology, our abilities to connect with and sort through these options are staggering. So why are so many people frustrated?

Really enjoyed listening and learning about the world of modern dating. I’ve been married for 9 years and never did online dating so this book helps me understand the world my single friends are living in. Great book if this is a topic you are interested in learning about and Aziz peppers in some excellent humor of course!

Fumio Sasaki is not an enlightened minimalism expert or organizing guru like Marie Kondo - he's just a regular guy who was stressed out and constantly comparing himself to others, until one day he decided to change his life by saying goodbye to everything he didn't absolutely need. The effects were remarkable: Sasaki gained true freedom, new focus, and a real sense of gratitude for everything around him.

I really enjoyed the no nonsense breakdown of minimalism, the logic behind it, easy steps to do it (with some ways to handle your own inevitable mental hang ups about ridding yourself of your belongings) and a little bit of research thrown in about how it helps us as human beings. Would recommend to anyone looking to learn about minimalism.

Historia
In 2004, in a stunning upset against the two-time defending champion Serena Williams, 17-year-old Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon, becoming an overnight sensation. Out of virtual anonymity, she launched herself onto the international stage. "Maria Mania" was born. Sharapova became a name and face recognizable worldwide. Her success would last: she went on to hold the number-one WTA ranking multiple times, to win four more Grand Slam tournaments, and to become one of the highest-grossing female athletes in the world.

Great insight into one of the best athletes in the world.
Revisado: 09-20-17
I enjoy books from great performers where they talk about their lives, their victories and defeats, but also about what makes them who they are. Sharapova does a great job of effectively and clearly describing her life's journey both professionally and personally with just enough tour gossip to keep you laughing. Would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about one of the best tennis players of all time or if you just appreciate listening to a great tale by an elite performer.
