Historia
Ellis Rogers is an ordinary man who is about to embark on an extraordinary journey. All his life he has played it safe and done the right thing. But when he is faced with a terminal illness, Ellis is willing to take an insane gamble. He's built a time machine in his garage, and if it works, he'll face a world that challenges his understanding of what it means to be human, what it takes to love, and the cost of paradise. Ellis could find more than a cure for his disease; he might find what everyone has been searching for since time has begun.

A different perspective on an old story. Some parts of the story were predictable otherwise I enjoyed it. The narration was good as well.

Historia
Locked behind bars for three years, Shadow did his time, quietly waiting for the day when he could return to Eagle Point, Indiana. A man no longer scared of what tomorrow might bring, all he wanted was to be with Laura, the wife he deeply loved, and start a new life. But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow's best friend are killed in an accident. With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday.

A very fun, but long book.

Where does American Gods rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I am a huge Star Wars fan, and I would say this book ranks in my top 5 out of the 40-50 audio books and several other standard texts I have. My first exposure to Gaiman was Neverwhere, and I wholly enjoyed that book. This specific audio book has an interview at the end, which really puts a light on his other works as well as this one.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I know this sounds cliche, but I really enjoyed Shadow as a character. His story is that of a conquest over himself, his foes, and the manifestations of nature itself. A journey of discovery and conquest, in a way. If I had to go with a second character though,Czernobog hands down.
Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?
Mr. Nancy
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I could have, yes.
Any additional comments?
There are a few moments where this story seems to drift or lag a little, but in reality it is to just set up the next part of this story. When you are taken aside for the "Coming to America," portions of this book, you are given insight as to how some of these gods came to America and when, and how that plays into Shadow's experiences with those gods.
