Historia
Who is Heavenly Mother, and do we have an individual imperative to seek Her as we do the Father and the Son? If so, how do we come to know Her? In The Mother Tree, poet and landscape architect Kathryn Knight Sonntag addresses the rising world-wide hunger to know a Mother God by asking these and other stirring questions. What follows is an exploration into the symbolic realm of the tree of life, Mother's chosen metaphor in scripture.

Whether or not there is a god, I believe what is known as God, is the energy of love. I believe energy transfers from one to the next. We creatures have a universal knowledge that can be understood through creating. I am astounded by the parallels this book has with the knowledge I’ve personally discovered in years past. I am reading this book for the first time. It speaks of the same message I enveloped in the hierarchical painting series I’ve created over the last few years. My series speaks of using art and nature to heal our personal generational traumas that will ultimately heal our external environments by embracing the voices of women. Listening to the lessons of our mother- Mother Nature, to be resourceful, reciprocal, and resilient during the time and space we share now will balance this patriarchal world to flourish. The mother embodies this wisdom.
After my mother passed away I began my series by symbolizing her lessons in the branches of my tree paintings. Words and letters I struggle with, but my trees spoke a language I understood.
Since completing my painting series I dove into knowledge on trinities and ancient stories. I joined a book club for the first time— speaking of my trees after hosting the book “the overstory,” a member highly suggested this book, “the mother tree.” I don’t know how the universe works, but this book mirrors so many of the truths I believe to be true of nature, culture, and innovation. We are creatures of this world- “ur” is at the center of “create.”
Thank you Kathryn Kright Sonntag for these poetic words. My soul feels heard.💛✌️
Also, I gave up on grammar in this rant… I am a painter and sculptor. Words are colors and shapes for me. Please forgive my flaws😉
