Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

listening to this created the feeling i knew the characters from my own life or stories told by friends. well written and well read. more harsh than I'm normally drawn to but not too graphic or gruesome for this gentle listener.

Conventional wisdom suggests English is going to the dogs, that bad grammar, slang, and illogical constructions signal a decline in standards of usage - to say nothing of the corruption wrought by email and text messages. But English is a complicated, marvelous language. Far from being a language in decline, English is the product of surprisingly varied linguistic forces, some of which have only recently come to light. And these forces continue to push English in exciting new directions.

edutainment at its best

who thought language and linguistics could be this much fun? This linguist is such an accessible and interesting speaker that if his name is on it, I give it a listen. His references to other languages to help explain how our American English makes sense, and doesn't, is fascinating to this curious about language individual and non linguist, life learner.

This Psych 312 assignment just might send me off the deep end. Determining whether love at first sight really exists with Robbie Moravian as my project partner of all people? He’s the sappiest man alive, so upbeat I could scream, and clearly rooting for happy endings at every turn. How does he not learn from experience considering our own meet-cute last semester almost got us expelled? But we both need to pass this course to graduate. So we’re interviewing five random couples about their meet-cutes and relationships and spending all this time together. Which is certainly...educational.

Santino Fontana was very likeable as the male lead in this book. His portrayal of the character left the reader believing he absolutely was the type of person that everyone likes... eventually. Both leads were likeable and witty and I loved that the reader/listener got to know them as people without being dragged through their bedroom lives and no sloppy kiss sounds. I listened to this book on headphones and in the car. the audio was excellent. well written and, being my first read by this author, this new fan will be looking for more by this wordsmith.

creative revamp of vampires
Revisado: 03-06-23
if this book was written without the detailed sex scenes and a detailed fight scene it would've been riveting for this listener. if you are one that enjoys detailed sex scenes with lots of jargon and slang then this is your book. I skipped through the scenes with sex and the violence to find the story because that part to my interest was very good. this author spun the vampire legend and Romany and traveler legend with a twist I truly enjoyed. I won't be looking for books by these narrators though. the man had a pleasant voice but his cadence and character voices were distracting instead of helping this listener get lost in the book. the female narrator has a way of speaking that is way more distracting than the male narrator and keeps me from getting into the story. she does have different voices for each character like the male narrator but she doesn't change her manner of speaking to match each character's personality. her effort at accents needs practice. I kept forgetting the male lead was irish let alone any other character's country's accent. with more practice and variation and willingness to leave behind their speech norms these narrators could be very enjoyable.

radio show style story with interesting characters. a nice escape. I saw the ending coming but the author did a nice job surprising this listener with how the ending came to pass. I loved that there was more comedy than drama and that the romance wasn't overly graphic.

Historia
Mortality Bites: Publisher's Pack 3 contains books five and six of the Mortality Bites series. Japan is the land of the rising sun. Great place for a vampire. But that’s exactly where I have to go to find my missing soul. A few weeks ago, I was briefly turned back into a vampire, which meant that I lost my soul for a day. When I first lost my vampirity, my soul came back. For reasons I don’t understand, this time it didn’t. What’s a girl to do? Go look for it, of course. The only problem is that my soul is being held hostage...in Japan.

witty and enthralling
Revisado: 03-02-23
this author does very nicely what few authors in this genre excel at in this time. the characters are tangible beings without ridiculous needs to ramble in expletives and action scenes are works of art rather than gore and misery. these characters are both intimidating and friendable. awe inspiring and could be your next door neighbor, well, mostly. this author has a cast of characters from the Pantheon of legend and myth that astounds me. some of the characters could be someone you'd see at a café, others are brought alive from the pages of a book on obscure mythology. my applause to the author's creativity in bringing each one to life in a way that, despite their appearance or personality, you could be having breakfast and wouldn't be surprised if they sit across the table from you at the cafe. Ramy Vance seems to have written this for the ability of narrator Candace Thaxton. while I didn't want the narration to end because I enjoyed the story so much, I also didn't want the book to end because I enjoyed her narration so much I forgot I wasn't right there in the middle of the action. I'll be looking for more by both this author and this narrator.

without giving anything away I must say I admire a writer that can keep track of loose ends and tie them in a neat bow that satisfies this listener whole leaving enough to drawthelistenerintoeach book in this trilogy. well done. pleasant narrator as well. not only did he create listenable voices for each character but he gave a good representation of dialects and accents as well. and my favorite thing about any narrator and this guy did an excellent job of this is the ability to modulate their voice to give the impression of whispering or shouting without damaging speakers or ears with actual large volume changes. since I often listen with headphones I truly appreciate this. this author is also to be commended for expressing love between the lead character and his boyfriend without leading the listener through the bedroom details which I'd rather not know. I'm the old fashioned type that prefers the camera not follow the characters when they're doing anything very intimate. being inside the heads of each character is intimacy enough. this author through his excellent storytelling created tangible worlds and characters that leapt off the page and taught the reader there is always more to a person's story than what a first encounter teaches a person. well done to both this author and narrator.

Historia
Adam Binder has lost what matters most to him. Having finally learned the true identity of the warlock preying on his family, what was supposed to be a final confrontation with the fiend instead became a trap that sent Adam’s beloved Vicente into the realm of the dead, where none living are meant to be. Bound by debt, oath, and love, Adam blazes his own trail into the underworld to get Vicente back, and to end the threat of the warlock once and for all. But the road to hell is paved with far more than good intentions.
