Took me by surprise
Revisado: 05-07-23
This was my first Christian book and I loved it! I could see the thread of the Biblical Hosea and Gomer throughout the story. It made me rethink some of my decisions...in the past and present. Listen if you are ready to be changed.

Could not get past the cursing
Revisado: 03-24-23
This seems like a good story, but II could not get past the language. I realize people talk like that but I don't know of any in a corporate environment who do.

Historia
This debut collection is a complicated love letter to Washington, DC, and to those who call it home: a TSA agent who's never flown, a girl braving new worlds to play piano, and a teacher caught up in a mayoral race. These characters navigate life's "training school" - with lessons on gentrification and respectability - and fight to create their own sense of space and self.

Loved it!!
Revisado: 09-25-22
As a native Washingtonian I connected with all of the stories. I went to Jr High with Len Bias, listened to WHUR until the wee hours of the morning, and ate at plenty of the little DC eateries. I really enjoyed the stories.

Historia
From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

OMG!! I Love this book!!
Revisado: 08-20-22
I am of the first generation born outside the south. Through this book I remembered relatives from long ago and thought of what they had to ho through to move "up north" I remembered the "club meetings" in small Apts in DC, the quarterly meetings at the church in NC that we walked to, the distant Aunts and Uncles...though no blood relation they were family anyway. Thank you Ms. Wilkerson.
