Historia
The youngest, half-goblin son of the Emperor has lived his entire life in exile, distant from the Imperial Court and the deadly intrigue that suffuses it. But when his father and three sons in line for the throne are killed in an "accident", he has no choice but to take his place as the only surviving rightful heir. Entirely unschooled in the art of court politics, he has no friends, no advisors, and the sure knowledge that whoever assassinated his father and brothers could make an attempt on his life at any moment.

I loved it.... However...
Revisado: 07-26-24
This was full of court politically charged conversation. Exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I didn't like was the crazy amount of terms with zero meaning. Jargon made up without reference. I feel like I spent half the time trying to understand what everyones titles ment . Names were equally confusing. I did find I was hoping for a sequel at the end and found out there isn't one.

Holes
Revisado: 11-20-22
This last book was terrible. The main characters were lost. All the lore fell apart. Everything the last few books built up was dropped like a hot potato. The ending was lackluster and short.
I wanted to end this story thinking " Dang that was cool and man they were awesome". But it wasn't cool and the main characters were far from awesome.
Spoiler:
I had hope at the beginning of this series that Connor and Grace would become amazing in their own ways. As the story went, i foresaw a strong independent healer/ mystic and a truly legendary Pirate Captain in the making. But Grace's story never evolved past a love sick girl with a habit of jumping to conclusions. And Connor who was becoming a strong pirate, into a self-hating chicken. Even the main protagonist became a let down.
I know they are young but for how often it was called out that they had grown up. I never saw it myself.

Not awful but not awesome
Revisado: 08-07-21
I feel like after this book I'm still not sure what happened. A lot of major events that the book leads up to, do not happen, instead you get quick summaries of the events from other characters. A whole mess of plots build up and then you don't even get to be there when they get untangled.
And when u do play witness to a big event, there is no real sense of danger. I had next to no emotional connection to the characters by the end.
No spoiler: but the book ends with another major event that is supposed to happen the following day. This is a poor attempt at a cliff hanger. Because I have no intention of reading the next book.
The best part of this book was the character names. Very fun and unique.

Fun, and great narration
Revisado: 06-14-20
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The Narrator is so fabulous, he makes up for most of the faults. Big problem with this book is how inconsistent the descriptions are. Some moments are so we'll scripted that a very clear image is presented, but just as often are scenes that are very hard to picture. Consisting of mostly dialogue and little description of what is happening. In these scenes I had to re-listen more than once to fully grasp what was happening. greatly interrupts the flow that the book is trying to get at.
All in all I thought it was very unique concept and very light-hearted which is a plus. For anyone looking for a light listen on a good weekend or a rainy weekend I would highly recommend this book.

The Selection Avatar Games
Revisado: 06-12-20
This is a blend of The Selection and The Hunger games, with a heavy dose of Avater(the cartoon).
I do not mind the familiar storyline or the one-sided characters, I knew what I was getting into when I read the description and reviews. However their short-sightedness and quick-to-judge all the time is driving me nuts. The main character is giving me whiplash. She can have compete faith in a person, then see them do something out of character and decided that the action was not out of character but now defines said person. She goes from total trust to complete hate and back again so much it makes me sick. She is 17/18 but is written like a 13 year old that sees everything at face value/ black and white. I have 2 hrs left in this book and I might not make it.
I like the ability to control the elements, very like Avatar.
I would really like to see a book like this where for once the main character is an understanding person that tries to understand the actions of others not immediately judge them. It's like all these books are Harry Potter vs Draco Malfoy. I need a Luna Lovegood or a Hermione Granger as the main protagonist. Now that would be unique.

A Normal Life in an Abnormal World
- De Arthur D. Rich en 08-26-17
Fun, not mind blowing but fun
Revisado: 06-11-20
This was like the book version of all those movies in the early 2000's that made fun of genres. Like Scary Movie, Date Movie, and Superhero Movie.
It fallows someone who works in the office of a super hero company, and there day today life. In a journalistic way. Naturally it pokes fun at all the tropes.
I wish I could give this a 3.5 star but I tend to round up. I think I may have laughed out loud once or twice. But more often I did find myself grinning from the sillyness of it. A bad review I read said it felt like it was written by a father and son making fun of superhero names. Although true, I think that was what made it fun. It was like the Stephen Lynch song "superhero".
Aside from the lack of plot that a journal type book tends to have. The voices bugged me. The narrator was trying too hard to do men's voices. Or maybe her struggle was that she was just trying to do to many different voices. Ether way so many were squeeky and annoying. Gruff men tended to sound like children. And it could just be me, but her conversational pacing felt off.
Anyway, it made a loanly 8hr round road trip go pretty quick. It's worth the free download from being a member, I would advise against spending money or a credit on it. Unless you are really hard up for an easy to fallow silly book about girl who wants to know how someone made of diamond has sex but is contractually obligated to not ask questions.
PS: my favorite superhero was "Well Actually." Closely followed by "Too Many Hammers."

For thousands of years, there has been a cycle: a Demon King rises and conquers, and a Hero is reborn a hundred years later to defeat him. Each time, civilizations are ground to dust beneath the Demon King's hordes, but humanity has remained secure in the belief that a Hero of legend will always save them. There's just one slight problem. It's only been 23 years since the Demon King's latest rise, and this time, he's already conquered more than half the world. If humanity simply waits for the Hero's return, there may be no world left for him to save.

Fun for a long drive or work day
Revisado: 05-26-20
This is the story of a villager that decided to end the "Demon Lord" instead of waiting for the "The Hero" to do it for them.
While short and very quick to the point, it was very fun to someone who has spent their young ( and adult) life playing RPG's. It poked fun at Zelda, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and others. A good gamer is always looking to work smarter not harder in these Epic's, and this book takes advantage of the many loop holes and physics breaking stunts that we constantly see.
This is a story born from a nerd that says stuff like "why can I carry so much shit but not move this small rock" Or " do I have to do all the steps it clearly wants me to do or can I just glitch my way there."
Made my workday at the computer enjoyable.

The Martian, Ready Player One and Seveneves in one
Revisado: 08-15-19
Ummmmm yah... Wow!!. Ok. Cool...and more wow..
So that happened and on to book 2.
It's like if The Martian, Ready Player One and Seveneves had a baby. It's got smarts from The Martian. The humour and fun geeky- nostalgia from RPO. The cool syfi/space life/ future suffs as Seveneves. I enjoyed this so much I'm buying a hard copy to own.
The book is non traditional in a way that feels more like you are part of the MC and less like you are reading a story or listening to one. It's just really very good and i was agog by the end. and about to start book 2.
All that being said, the narrator is phenomenal. The conversations are so we'll done that it's like having a movie on when you are not looking at the tv. I cannot believe that it was one voice actor.
For the people thinking about reading this book, do it.
For the people who are kinda board with books, read this.
For the people who want a chuckle, or syfi, or geekieness. This book is for you.
Yah...
Yes, please take my money. And book 2 play.

Revisado: 03-30-19
These books are so hard to put down. I can't even. Just read it and feel awed. Because books like this are the reason people read fiction. The reason people read tell they fall asleep. And man this man can read a story. Woo he does each character so well. Don't be stingy with your credits and get this book or get the audiobook because you will not be disappointed. In fact if you see the name Brandon Sanderson on a book just by that. Don't think about it, just by it. It's the right choice.
