Fly-on-the-wall insight
Revisado: 11-13-18
The headline says it all for me with this text. What an opportunity to read a first-hand account to who said what, quite literally. While I'm not surprised by much in this text, I was still aghast to read how it actually transpired and what people actually said in real time. I am really grateful and appreciative of the lens that this text affords we as citizens as to what the hell is going on in the current administration. Yikes.

Ok, but a bit of a repeating run-on
Revisado: 11-13-18
Emily Nagoski included some really wonderful information in this book, but it was really really repetitive and probably could have been edited for duplication. This probably could be re-written as a text book for a course on human sexuality (one with a female-bodied focus) and it would be a rather fun (read: not boring) course. As a book though, it was a bit boring and just so repetitive. I enjoyed the case studies, though the duplication across different topics was a bit hard to follow in an audiobook. I decided to read this book because I do teach this material to graduate level students, and in doing so, I've considered including this book as incorporated reading for my courses, but I wasn't wowed, so I'm still quite on the fence about moving forward with this. I don't know what I was hoping for, but perhaps the repetitiveness really turns me off.

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

Loved it!
Revisado: 11-13-18
Michael Pollan is witty, thorough, and fun to read. I enjoy how he weaved both his personal experience with an in depth review of both the science and politics of psychedelics. I don't usually re-read books (there are just too many on my bucket list), but this one is one that I have starred to read again, should time allow! If you are interested in understanding our social, intellectual, and emotional attraction to psychedelics, this is a must read. Loved it!

Historia
Blessed with uncanny deductive skills and a blasé disregard for authority, Matt Bolster was a rising LAPD homicide detective by the age of 35. He was also overworked, near-alcoholic, and miserable. Then, to impress a girl, he agreed to try yoga. Now Bolster has traded his badge for a three-day stubble and the life of an itinerant yoga teacher, dabbling in PI work to make rent. He mostly handles missing-persons cases, credit-card fraud - nothing too messy. But that's before Ajoy Chaterjee, the wealthy mogul behind one of the world's leading yoga-business empires, is found murdered inside his West L.A. flagship studio.

Decent listen, but not a wow book
Revisado: 11-13-18
I really enjoy a good who dunnit story, and this one is just about average or just above average. I decided to read this book because I love yoga and wanted to read a book that integrated two things I am interested in - yoga and murder mystery. I thought the plot was ok. The writing was a bit cheeky and sophomoric for my taste. The plot line also wasn't very deep and was rather flat throughout. Some of the character development could have been a bit better, but for a novel of this length, it was ok. The performance of the book was better than the story itself.

Russia expert Luke Harding lays out the most in-depth look to date at the Trump campaign's dealings with Russia. Beginning with a meeting with Christopher Steele, the man behind the shattering dossier that first brought the allegations to light, Harding probes the histories of key Russian and American players with striking clarity and insight. Harding exposes the disquieting details of the Trump-Russia story - a saga so huge it involves international espionage, offshore banks, sketchy real estate deals, mobsters, money laundering, disappeared dissidents, and more.

This is an excellent read as an introduction to the guru - what to look for in a guru, how to assess whether you even want or should have a guru, and I enjoyed the humor sprinkled throughout.

Revisado: 06-18-17
This story had potential, but I was a bit disappointed with the interweaving of a love story with what was touted as a thrilling read. The plot never really got deep or interesting and the exploration of medicinal espionage was rather shallow. So overall, this was a casual read that wasn't very gripping.

Revisado: 02-15-17
Would you try another book from David Perlmutter and Kristin Loberg and/or Peter Ganim?
Interesting information, but very repetitive in structure and content. Statements are made in absolute when the science is still under construction.
Would you be willing to try another book from David Perlmutter and Kristin Loberg ? Why or why not?
I would consider trying another book by these authors, but I'm not expecting much difference.
Which scene was your favorite?
Review of the cases in the science literature and the case examples.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The science presented is interesting and almost compelling.
Any additional comments?
This reader encourages the author to take a more humble approach to science and it's review. The book feels like it's trying too hard to sell your business and practice, not actually to review the science and to be critical of it, which is what I was hoping for.

had potential but lost my interest pretty quickly
Revisado: 06-06-12
What disappointed you about Foreign Body?
The story dragged on and the plot was a bit too predictable for me. I appreciated the characters and the plot drama/crisis; however, I felt that some of Cook's earlier work was more attention grabbing than this one.
Has Foreign Body turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but it might have turned me off from this author.
What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Character life!!!!
You didn???t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narration was superb.
