No. Just NO!
Revisado: 02-21-24
Ok, if the topic of incest and child abuse hasn’t turned you away from this book yet, let me warn you on how those topics are presented in this book. While the MC does think the incest and abuse is wrong, she also romanticizes it in parts as well. As do all the other Roanoke girls. They really love Dad/Grandpa/uncle. It’s absolutely disgusting and cannot be taken as a serious handling of the topics. If you are looking for a mystery or thriller, this is not it. It’s romance and sex with a hint of a who-dun-it that ultimately has no surprises, only sickly intertwined sex/romance scenes. I cannot believe how many 5 star ratings this book has, because it’s trash. I would have returned it for the credit back but it was a 2-1 credit sale.

The hosts’ voices sound like they are high schoolers reading for the class out of a textbook. Mindless droning. Also heard a lot of background noises.

It’s the mid-'90s. Grunge and flannel are fading as the Spice Girls and Hot Topic conquer the malls. Cherry gloss glistens on the lips of the youth. Modems hiss as America comes online. And in a fog-drenched cove at the edge of New England, something terrible awakens when a fisherman reels in a gruesome catch: the remains of a young woman. Remains still pulsing with furious life.

Seventeen-year-old Sarabeth has become increasingly rebellious since her parents found God and moved their family to a remote Arkansas farmstead where she’s forced to wear long dresses, follow strict rules, and grow her hair down to her waist. She’s all but given up on escaping the farm when a masked man appears one stifling summer morning and snatches her out of the cornfield. A week after her abduction, she’s found alongside a highway in a bloodstained dress - alive. Five years later, Sarabeth is struggling to keep her past buried when Investigator Nick Farrow calls.

Meh
Revisado: 10-26-23
I had high hopes for this book, but it was very mediocre. Not terrible, but not good either. And the narration was grating, trying way to hard to be sweet soft southern.

Historia
Down a narrow alley in the small coastal town of Mallow Island, South Carolina, lies a stunning cobblestone building comprised of five apartments. It's called The Dellawisp and it's named after the tiny turquoise birds who, alongside its human tenants, inhabit an air of magical secrecy. When Zoey Hennessey comes to claim her deceased mother's apartment at The Dellawisp, she meets her quirky, enigmatic neighbors including a girl on the run, a grieving chef whose comfort food does not comfort him, two estranged middle-aged sisters, and three ghosts. Each with their own story.

Good, light fluff - like eating a marshmallow
Revisado: 09-29-23
This was a heartwarming story, some childhood traumas were lightly touched on, and certain abuse alluded to, but overall the tone stayed light even on these dark topics. The character of Zoey was a little unbelievable, and the narrator’s accents were way too much. But it was an overall nice fluffy story with all happy endings. Also, there is minimal mystery here.

Historia
The LISK (Long Island Serial Killer) investigation began in May 2010 with the disappearance of sex worker Shannan Gilbert. In the following months, Suffolk County Police uncovered human remains from nine more murders, including those of the "Gilgo 4", all sex workers whose bodies were disposed of similarly. After years of virtually no new developments, Suffolk County Police arrested Rex Heuermann in connection with the murder of at least 3 victims. DNA evidence, cellphone records and witness accounts of a Chevrolet Avalanche truck all led to police zeroing in on Heuermann. As prosecutors ...
