Historia
In Why We Love Serial Killers, criminology professor Dr. Scott Bonn explores our powerful appetite for the macabre, while also providing new and unique insights into the world of the serial killer, including those he has gained from his correspondence with two of the world’s most notorious examples, David Berkowitz ("Son of Sam") and Dennis Rader ("Bind, Torture, Kill").

interesting but not factual
Revisado: 12-03-24
Well-written and enjoyable, but unfortunately many "facts" presented in the book were inaccurate. Feels like a waste of potential

Historia
Here to rescue the reputations of our Founding Fathers from the plague of modern political correctness is The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Founding Fathers. Author and Professor Brion McClanahan shows how patriots like Franklin, Madison, and Hamilton laid the foundations of American civil liberty and had a better understanding of the problems facing us today than our current Congress.

disappointed
Revisado: 12-23-23
I expected an objective but shockingly blunt book. Very disappointed to instead get a veiled tantrum. Especially after reading thoroughly researched and in-depth biographies, which were actually more 'politically incorrect' than this book by simply being historically accurate and not censored.

Historia
Over the past three decades, professor Larry Smith has become something of a "career whisperer" for his students at the University of Waterloo. Each year, millions of talented college students graduate with little or no real sense of what their next steps will be, yet they are determined not to settle for so-so careers; they are looking for great careers. Smith points out that only a few fortunate souls are born knowing exactly what they want to pursue in life. The rest of us have to stop making excuses and start asking ourselves tough questions about achieving our goals.

Enjoyable
Revisado: 07-04-21
The storytelling setup often fails in similar setups, but I found it well done is this one. The balance is perfect between memorable anecdotes, written dialogue and lessons. Well-written, so it flows well instead of feeling sluggish or cringey.

Historia
In Sons of Cain - a book that fills the gap between dry academic studies and sensationalized true crime - investigative historian Peter Vronsky examines our understanding of serial killing from its prehistoric anthropological evolutionary dimensions in the pre-civilization era (c. 15,000 BC) to today. Delving further back into human history and deeper into the human psyche than Serial Killers - Vronsky's 2004 book, which has been called "the definitive history of the phenomenon of serial murder" - he focuses strictly on sexual serial killers.

Opinions and misconceptions presented as factual
Revisado: 07-02-21
Poor understanding of behavioral biology and the evolution of behavior, leading to misconceptions being represented as facts in this book.
Also unnecessarily repetitive at times.

Lots of boring content, like talking objectifyingly about women or trying to funnily talk about a deadly car crash, that I was not expecting.

One of my favorite podcasts. I'm not the type to like banter, yet these hosts have a relaxing effect on me despite the gruesome subjects. I love the lesser known cases especially.

Fluff
Revisado: 11-03-20
I agreed with the ideas in the book, but found it a drudge of repetition, cheesy but pointless meandering, way too much fluff and awkwardly written fake dialogies. Basically the writing ruined the ideas in the book.
