Ich fand es sehr toll. Ich mag russische Mythologie und diese Heldin war sehr cool! Könnte Audible bitte Hörbücher für die anderen beiden auch machen?

Inspiring, if not a tad extreme

The ideas in this book are inspirational. It really got me to get rid of so many things that took up space in my house (and in my head). What with music and videos being on demand, I happily gave away my CDs and DVDs. Now I don't have to look at them and feel guilty about not watching those movies I bought so many years ago with the intention of - one day - watching them. I haven't till now, and if I want to I can do so anytime with Amazon Prime, Netflix or YouTube. When the author spoke of giving up all his towels save for one - which he uses both to dry his body and his dishes - that's where I draw the line. Take what you want and leave the rest. You'll be happy you listened to this short book.

Would you try another book from Dmitry Glukhovsky and/or Rupert Degas?

I don't think I'll give the author another try. Rupert Degas is fantastic. His accents and pronunciation was amazing. I would definitely listen to him again.

What was most disappointing about Dmitry Glukhovsky’s story?

This was a twenty hour slog. Lots of twists and turns in the story and plot. The ending was hugely disappointing. Perhaps if I was a Russian literature aficionado I might have better appreciated it. I hung on hoping for some sort of satisfying resolution. But - and I won't give it away, the ending ruined the whole experience. Had it not been 6 weeks beyond the year deadline for returns, I would have returned it.

Have you listened to any of Rupert Degas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've never listened to him before, but I would again without hesitation.

Did Metro 2033 inspire you to do anything?

Yes, not to get any more Russian science fiction.

Any additional comments?

Seriously, if you're into Russian ethos, you'll probably love this. At the end of it, my only thought was, "Wait, what? You've got to be kidding!"

Would you try another book from Chuck Barrett and/or Scott Brick?

No, this sample of the author's and narrator's work was enough to turn me off both of them.

What could Chuck Barrett have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

To begin with the characters were two dimensional and stereotypical conflicted tough-guy. If you are into cliche spy fiction, this is for you. I like this genre just as much as the next guy. I couldn't get enough of Vince Flynn. The style and dialogue of this book had me constantly rolling my eyes. I couldn't get through this book, and I'm usually pretty patient.

How could the performance have been better?

Scott Brick's leaden performance perfectly matched the emotionless, monotone tough-guy personas in this book. His range of character voicing was very limited.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Toymaker?

All of it. Look elsewhere to use your credit. I wish I had.

This is the first time I write a review of any book at this website. Generally, I am fairly tolerant enough to get through any audiobook, though some have been harder than others. This one literally drove me to write this review. I quit this book about 2/3 through it with a sense of relief.
