Some useful recommendations but need a different narrator
Revisado: 05-03-24
The ideas and recommendations from the book seem helpful. I don’t know how an author could make ADHD a riveting topic or draw readers in, so I guess Mr. Bass does as good as can be expected. The main critique I have isn’t even about the content of the book; it’s more with the narrator. Some narrators have voices that, if not rich and expressive, at the very least aren’t annoying. This narrator has a high pitched voice and, while he’s animated and enthusiastic, the high pitch of his voice makes the presentation hard to listen to. If you’re considering listening to this book on Audible, I’d suggest you first listen to the sample provided by Audible to make sure you’re not turned off to the narrators voice like I was.

Historia
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Good book but a few flaws
Revisado: 11-11-21
Herbert weaves a crafty tale of action and suspense. A minor thing, perhaps, but there are a few parts that are disappointing and surprisingly poorly written. One is when Halleck has his arm around Jessica’s neck and is poised to stab her in the back. After Paul’s explanation and manner persuade Halleck to release his life threatening hold on Jessica, within a few minutes Jessica is asking Halleck to sing her a song . . . as of his violent threat were akin to accidentally bumping into her. After just physically manhandling her and threatening to kill her she wants him to sing to her??? The absurdity of this ruins the moment and makes Halleck’s actions seem perfunctory and diminishes their meaning.
Likewise, the relative absence of mourning or grief reaction by Paul and Chani to their son’s reported death, and no mention of any reaction to it by the grandparents (Jessica, Stilgar) strains credulity. Finally, the lack of concern or even interest expressed for Alia after the final battle is inexplicable.
The storyline is entertaining and the characters are mostly well developed but the above omissions make it look like Herbert was under a time constraint to get the book out to his publisher.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Historia
This audiobook has been made for three purposes. First, to provide the Orthodox listener with a competent overview of the history of Protestantism and its major traditions, from its beginnings in the 16th century to the present day. Second, to acquaint Orthodox and non-Orthodox listeners with a narrative of the historical relations between the Orthodox East and the Protestant West. Finally, to provide a summary of Orthodox theological opinion on the tenets of Protestantism.

Strengthened my own faith
Revisado: 07-29-19
While I don't care for the dogmatic style of the author or his harsh repudiation of the protestant movement, the book does a good job of delineating the history and fundamental beliefs of the protestant reformers, the current religious movements their efforts have spawned, and those of the Roman Catholic and Orthodox church. His book helps me see how effective Satan has been in sowing confusion and division among those who seek to worship and follow God. My faith and conviction of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ has been greatly strengthened. I am so grateful.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Good story but it could be told in 1/2 the time
Revisado: 07-20-18
OK book - not my favorite. I think Wells could've still written a compelling book and improved it by shortening it. A lot of redundancy.
