Historia
Don't take too much Vitamin D it is dangerous! I started taking 20,000 IU a day-50X times the recommended dose of 400 IU a day. After about four months upped the dose to 50,000 IU a day or 150X the old recommended “safe” dose I then boosted it to 100,000 IU a day or 300 x times the old maximum safe dose! What happened over these last 10 months? Did I die? get sick? No! Just the opposite! High dose Vitamin D3 therapy over the last year-cured all my chronic conditions-some that i'd had for 20+ years!

The writer’s biases and ranting discredits the legitimacy of the research
Revisado: 11-30-24
Woah! Talk about all over the place! This book was not easy to listen to. Any valid research was lost in the writer’s tangential narrative, self grandiosity, biases and name calling. E.g. calling health professionals autistic and narrow minded because they didn’t agree with him. I believe there is a lot to be learned about Vit. D therapy, but not from this book.

Historia
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Could have been a great book except…
Revisado: 10-13-23
Pros: very good plot, complex and deep. Characters are interesting and the story grabs you from the start.
Cons: the narrator’s voice was like an angsty, angry teenager. Reminded me of a girls’ boarding school at that time of the month. Then there are the characters’ emotions - everything is so overly dramatic and they are always on the very edge of extreme emotion. It’s tiring to listen to. Then there’s the sex! It’s talked about, anticipated, dreamt of for most of the book. Then it happens - in high definition, 3D hyperbole with every minute detail verbalised. Everything is so hot and steamy, moist and wet, hard and deep, soft and silky. Did I miss any descriptors because the book doesn’t! Afterwards… comes the constant references, remembering and reliving. Someone needs to tell the author that less is more - seriously!
In summary, the plot did get me to the end of the book and though I do have some idle thoughts about where the story might go from here, I’m out, done and finished. Such a waste of a good plot.

Historia
Drawing from her work as a psychoanalyst and cantadora (keeper of old stories), Dr. Estes uses myths and folktales to illustrate how societies systematically strip away the feminine spirit. Through an exploration into the nature of the wild woman archetype, Dr. Estes helps listeners rediscover and free their own wild nature.

A thoughtful expose on taking back your power.
Revisado: 12-31-22
The writer uses stories from around the world to teach, inspire and motivate women to take back their power, to strike down social shackles and to take responsibility for self. Most of this book resonated with me as only truths can. An interesting read. Loved the narrator’s natural conversational style.

Historia
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

Amusing but not quite funny, diverting but not quite interesting.
Revisado: 07-29-22
A science fiction/ecological story of good triumphing over bad in a capering meander of small adventures, where well meaning nerds save the Kaiju. If you want an easy listen that will make you smile and you don’t mind that it doesn’t make any points except for a generalised wave at ecologically ‘everything is connected’, then this book is for you. It won’t change your life but it will help you pass time.

Revisado: 06-07-22
Written from the point of view of a minority of millennials who blame their own lack of agency and success on everyone and everything else. It’s Durkheim’s anomie on steroids. A pitiful and pathetic read.

Historia
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

Authentic, engrossing, satisfying !
Revisado: 05-05-21
What a great read! It’s not enough to describe this book as a detective mystery set in Ireland. You get a deep sense of the time and place with authentic, complex characters and a non- judgemental portrayal of history and politics. The main character understands that he is flawed, but driven by a deep sense of justice and an understanding that true justice is not always lawful and that sometimes compromise is expedient. The narration is excellent and accents sound authentic to my non-Irish ears. Left me hungering after the next book in the series.

Historia
There's an underground black market for arcane things. Akin to the trade in rhino horns or tiger bones, this network traffics in remains of gryphons, faeries, goblins, and other fantastic creatures. When her fiance Vince goes missing, Angela Gough, an American criminology student, discovers he was a part of this secretive trade. It's a big-money business-shadowy, brutal, and sometimes fatal. As the trail leads her deeper into London's dark side, she crosses paths with a crime lord whose life is dedicated to collecting such relics.
