Historia
At first glance, it looks like just another auditorium in just another government building. But among the talented men (and later women) who worked in mission control, the room located on the third floor of Building 30—at what is now Johnson Space Center—would become known by many as "the Cathedral." These members of the space program were the brightest of their generations, making split-second decisions that determined the success or failure of a mission.

A Great Listen- A Great Story
Revisado: 04-28-18
This story covers a period of 27 years in the life of Mission Control. The astronauts are included in this story, but the stars are the mission controllers and a story that describes how a minimally trained group was able to ultimately handle every issue thrown at this group of folks and how the took the USA to the moon. The majority of the story covers the Apollo program, but learning about the people that worked there drew me in. Enjoyable and not overly technical.

Historia
Bankers, philanthropists, scholars, socialites, artists, and politicians, the Warburgs stood at the pinnacle of German (and, later, German American) Jewry. They forged economic dynasties, built mansions and estates, assembled libraries, endowed charities, and advised a German kaiser and two American presidents. But their very success made the Warburgs lightning rods for anti-Semitism, and their sense of patriotism became increasingly dangerous in a Germany that had declared Jews the enemy.

Another Chernow Masterpiece
Revisado: 11-01-17
You need not be an international banker to enjoy this wonderful story of a special family that changed the world of high finance. Countless events of individual emotional and geographical family dynamics are expertly weaves into this multi-generational story. The horrible impact of the rise of the Third Reich, Hitler, and the struggles this and other Jews suffered is detailed. The philanthropic focus by this family was also detailed. The narrator is to be commended as well. Written in typical and understandable Chernow fashion.

Robert A. Caro's life of Lyndon Johnson continues - one of the richest, most intensive, and most revealing examinations ever undertaken of an American President. The Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer/historian carries Johnson through his service in World War II and the foundation of his long-concealed fortune and the facts behind the myths he created about it. But the explosive heart of the book is Caro's revelation of the true story of the fiercely contested 1948 senatorial election.

Great & Insightful LBJ Biography
Revisado: 06-02-17
My daily commute passing the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston has taken on a new meaning after I listened to this well written story. The author went deep into the details and provided a side of LBJ that I never knew or thought about as he clawed his way to the top of the political world. Although the audiobook does purposely cover his entire life, the critical issues and formative stories of LBJ's life provided me with a deeper understanding of why he acted or behaved in the way he did in politics and relationships with Lady Bird, friends, staff, and politics. Highly recommend if your passion is to learn a new perspective of LBJ.

Details and Knowledge of George Washington gained
Revisado: 02-11-17
Although I wanted to understand more about the Father of our Country, the story told provided me with a much deeper understanding of a life and of a man who became great through events and relationships that prepared him for greatness. George Washington's story is one that was truly worth 25+ hours of listening and the narration of this journey was pleasant on the ears. Highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who loves a detailed and well crafted biography. Ron Chernow's research and clarity about the way the subject may have thought is always portrayed by example and historical perspective.

Historia
In the Shadow of the Moon tells the story of the most exciting and challenging years in spaceflight, with two superpowers engaged in a titanic struggle to land one of their own people on the moon. Drawing on interviews with astronauts, cosmonauts, their families, technicians, and scientists, as well as rarely seen Soviet and American government documents, the authors craft a remarkable story of the golden age of spaceflight as both an intimate human experience and a rollicking global adventure.

A Wonderful & Comprehensive Space Story
Revisado: 08-23-16
Narrator in this audiobook was easier on the ears than Into the Silent Sea. I came away with a much better understanding of our race to the Moon after listening. Great detail provided on the Russian program, some of which was new to me. Recommend this one to anyone who has an interest in learning about manned space flight and the programs of Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo and the corresponding Russian program.

What's it like to travel at more than 850 MPH, riding in a supersonic T-38 twin turbojet engine airplane? What happens when the space station toilet breaks? How do astronauts "take out the trash" on a spacewalk, tightly encapsulated in a space suit with just a few layers of fabric and Kevlar between them and the unforgiving vacuum of outer space?

Wonderfully Crafted Autobiographical Astronaut Story
Revisado: 05-17-16
I enjoyed every moment of the time that I spent listening to the story of astronaut Clay Anderson. It was well narrated by Aaron Killian.
Evident throughout was the thoughtful perspective of astronaut Anderson as issues and circumstances unfolded. Some of which could only have been conveyed following his retirement/separation from the astronaut corp. Add to that the efforts of a man who achieved a lofty lifetime goal of becoming an astronaut during the era of the space shuttle and the building of the ISS. Truly a very good listen.
The technical issues were all explained in layperson terms and I left the audiobook with a much better understanding of the man, his spiritual strength, and sacrifices made in his personal life to live his lifelong dream.
Highly recommend to anyone who has a interest in space and what is required and what is sacrificed to become an astronaut.

A Wonderful & Powerful Life Story
Revisado: 02-10-16
I knew that I would eventually get this book into my sights,. I had a moment of guilt and regret that the mobile device that told me the Steve Jobs story should have been on an IPhone, IPad, or MacBook. After reflecting on this I realized that Steve Jobs permitted his story to be an "open" book to all who had a desire to gain knowledge of a fascinating man with an ability to recognize and create wonderful technology products. My mind was expanded after listening to his story. Writing was excellent and narration was crisp and clear.
