Immersive and fun escape
Revisado: 09-23-24
The world was built up well and you care for most of the characters. I usually am not into middle earth or fantasy tales but the slow burn helped me get into things. There were some moments that felt a little silly but it was enjoyable to lean into the dream of it all.

Historia
Nobody needs telling there isn’t enough time. We’re obsessed with our lengthening to-do lists, our overfilled inboxes, work-life balance, and the ceaseless battle against distraction; and we’re deluged with advice on becoming more productive and efficient, and “life hacks” to optimize our days. But such techniques often end up making things worse. The sense of anxious hurry grows more intense, and still the most meaningful parts of life seem to lie just beyond the horizon.

Positive existentialist perspective
Revisado: 09-15-24
A lot of what was said I’ve heard before but the author does a great job of laying it out in a logical and appealing manner. He cites scientific studies, old religious practices, and even literary imaginings of utopian and dystopian futures. Something for everyone truly.

Celebrating her forty-fifth birthday at her local pub, popular podcaster Alix Summer crosses paths with an unassuming woman called Josie Fair. Historia
There is no bigger public health story now than the collapse in youth mental health. The numbers are terrifying and dominate our headlines. There has been much debate over how we got here, and what to do next, and bestselling author and social psychologist Jonathan Haidt is at the white-hot center of that discourse. Haidt has spent his career speaking wisdom and truth into the most difficult landscapes—communities polarized by politics and religion, campuses battling culture wars, and now the perfect storm contributing to a public health emergency for Gen Z.

Everyone could benefit from this, not just parents and kids
Revisado: 09-04-24
This book will stay with me. Some things seem a little too exclusively attributed to the author’s hypothesis but I do agree with it for the most part, I just think there are other things to monitor to improve mental health in modern life as well.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Historia
The guru to the gurus at last shares his knowledge with the rest of us. Nobel laureate Daniel Kahneman's seminal studies in behavioral psychology, behavioral economics, and happiness studies have influenced numerous other authors, including Steven Pinker and Malcolm Gladwell. In Thinking, Fast and Slow, Kahneman at last offers his own, first book for the general public. It is a lucid and enlightening summary of his life's work. It will change the way you think about thinking. Two systems drive the way we think and make choices, Kahneman explains....

Historia
Environmental devastation and economic chaos have turned America into a land of horrifying depravity. Assault, theft, sexual abuse, slavery, and murder are commonplace. And a zealous, bigoted tyrant has won his way into the White House. Directly opposed is Lauren Olamina, founder of Earthseed - a new faith that teaches "God Is Change". Persecuted for "heathen" beliefs as much as for having a Black female leader, Earthseed's followers face a life-and-death struggle to preserve their vision.

Historia
From trendy restaurants to city grids, to TikTok and Netflix feeds the world round, algorithmic recommendations dictate our experiences and choices. The algorithm is present in the familiar neon signs and exposed brick of Internet cafes, be it in Nairobi or Portland, and the skeletal, modern furniture of Airbnbs in cities big and small. Over the last decade, this network of mathematically determined decisions has taken over, almost unnoticed—informing the songs we listen to, the friends with whom we stay in touch—as we’ve grown increasingly accustomed to our insipid new normal.

Thinking about it a lot during/after read
Revisado: 04-14-24
It mostly sticks because the topic is so relevant and present in daily life. I liked the structure. Some of the personal anecdotal parts took me out of it a little but I think it might be geared to make the book a good time capsule if read in the future.

Shocked by how much I love this book
Revisado: 04-07-24
Read it on recommendation from friends. I am not big on the cowboy theme but this blew me away. It is one of the best books I’ve ever read. You care about every character and the author does an amazing job of focusing on some things in great detail without overburdening the reader. The performance was great and really helped paint the dialogue and tone.
