Historia
The history of the Boston Tea Party is a hidden one. Why? Since it was a clandestine operation, all sorts of rumors and legends grew up around the event—many collected decades after the American Revolution had ended. At its core, however, the night of December 16, 1773, when colonials dumped tea from British ships into Boston Harbor, was more than a fight over tea and taxes. It was a struggle over the very nature of democracy and self-governance.

Great context setting around the Boston Tea Party
Revisado: 01-09-24
The author is well+spoken and does a great job of explaining the events leading up to the Boston Tea Party and the events that it triggered. While the Tea Party itself is familiar, the background the author explores is quite revealing.

Fascinating Review of Franklin's life and times
Revisado: 05-06-23
This review of Franklin life as a man, a natural philosophy, man of letters and statesman was one of the best courses I have encountered. Not only do you learn more about Franklin himself, but the coverage includes context of the time and places where he lived, his friends and family, and his contributions to learning and society. The narration is clear and concise. I highly recommend this course.

Historia
Eastern Europe has long been thought of as the "Other Europe", a region rife with political upheaval, shifting national borders, an astonishing variety of ethnic diversity, and relative isolation from the centers of power in the West. It has also been, and continues to be, pivotal in the course of world events. A History of Eastern Europe offers a sweeping 1,000-year tour with a particular focus on the region's modern history.

Terrific Survey of Eastern Europe
Revisado: 03-11-19
This history is one of the best courses I have experienced. Necessarily shallow in places, the author does a terrific job of setting forth the complexities and richness of Eastern Europe while not flinching from the sadness present throughout so much of the regions historic. Author is also an engaging speaker.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Long Book but Worth It
Revisado: 02-07-16
Having been through the canal on a cruise ship, I found the whole history of the effort to be fascinating. The author gives you a view of most aspect of the story from the technical and political side to personal stories of those involved both high and low. I also think Nelson Runger did a credible job with the reading.

Historia
The word "barbarian" quickly conjures images of Attila the Hun and Genghis Khan. Yet few people realize these men belong to a succession of nomadic warriors who emerged from the Eurasian steppes to conquer civilizations. It's a part of ancient and medieval history that's often overlooked, but for an accurate view of how the world evolved, it's essential. Covering some 6,000 miles and 6,000 years, this eye-opening course illuminates how a series of groups pushed ever westward, coming into contact with the Roman Empire, Han China, and distant cultures from Iraq to India.
