Historia
Anthony Peardew is the keeper of lost things. Forty years ago he carelessly lost a keepsake from his beloved fiancée, Therese. That very same day, she died unexpectedly. Brokenhearted, Anthony sought consolation in rescuing lost objects - the things others have dropped, misplaced, or accidently left behind - and writing stories about them. Now, in the twilight of his life, Anthony worries that he has not fully discharged his duty to reconcile all the lost things with their owners.

Such a great book! The writing was brilliantly funny filled with several plots weaving in and out to a deeply satisfying conclusion. I highly recommend.

Misleading Title
Revisado: 12-14-22
I found the main character unlikable and selfish with very little character development. The author blamed this shallowness on the character's mother's mental illness but, as a child of a parent with mental illness, this excuse didn't ring true. Overall the plot just didn't work either. Is it a coming of age? Not really. A mystery? One without a resolution. A love story? Barely. I cannot recommend.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
It began in a women's club in London on a February afternoon. A discreet advertisement in The Times, addressed to "Those who Appreciate Wistaria and Sunshine..." lures four very different women away from the dismal British weather to San Salvatore, a castle high above a bay on the sunny Italian Riviera. There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

My favorite audio book
Revisado: 06-11-22
Character development, hopefulness, peacefulness- this book has all of these and more. I love Eleanor Bron’s narration. The story starts with characters who are selfish and unhappy, but ends with friends who have become family. Even the most unlikeable character experiences redemption. Sure there are certain tropes that are outdated but those can be easily overlooked.
When I experience anxiety or sleeplessness, I turn on this book and fall asleep easily. The magic of San Salvatore works on the reader as well as the characters.

Historia
It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Historia
Meet Harold Fry, recently retired. He lives in a small English village with his wife, Maureen, who seems irritated by almost everything he does, even down to how he butters his toast. Little differentiates one day from the next. Then one morning the mail arrives, and within the stack of quotidian minutiae is a letter addressed to Harold in a shaky scrawl from a woman he hasn’t seen or heard from in twenty years. Queenie Hennessy is in hospice and is writing to say goodbye.

I couldn't turn it off!
Revisado: 05-01-21
I listened to the bulk of this in one day. I didn't want to turn it off. The character development of each of the characters is sublime and the way the story unfolds is interesting and gentle. I laughed, cried, recoiled, and cringed... then laughed again. So glad I found this book.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Lovely
Revisado: 09-29-20
Such a lovely story... but it's not sweet; Ova wouldn't like that. Grumpy, difficult, but deeply kind, I couldn't stop listening. This is one of those rare books that had me sitting in the driveway for too long just to listen to a little bit more.
