Historia
The construction of the world's first truly accurate clock starts a race against, well, time. For if the perfect clock starts ticking, Time, as we know it, will stop. And then the trouble will really begin. Subtle, sly, thought-provoking, and hilarious, Thief of Time is Terry Pratchett at his best. "This delightful production keeps the listener spellbound," says AudioFile.

Be very careful which version you purchase!
Revisado: 02-29-16
I ignorantly purchased the version narrated by Stefan Rudnicki, Harlan Ellison. I did not even get 10 minutes into the book and had to stop. I've listened to Nigel Planer, Stephen Briggs, and Celie Imrie all of which are very good narrators. I'm suspecting that someone thought the US needed a different version of this book (I hope that person was fired, but the decision maker for this awful audiobook was probably in management with MBA behind their name and some poor plebe probably took the blame while the suit wearer was promoted (because failure in management always goes up, not down)).
I now will spend the evening disinfecting my ears with bleach just to get this awful book out of my head. Don't make the mistake I made, buy the version narrated by Stephen Briggs, your ears will thank you

Historia
In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Can't wait for more from Roth
Revisado: 06-25-12
Roth can write, which is such a nice dose of fresh air. Haven't gotten to Hunger Games yet, so I can't compare and contrast the two. Roth's phrasing during the opening mirror scene between Beatrice and her mother grabbed me right away. Her phrasing and approach to her characters reminds me George R.R. Martin. Martin and Roth treat her readers like adults and there isn't always a happy ending with characters, and death is not always how we expect it.
The story was quite engaging, I literally had to sit down and stop to listen to hear how the scene with Christina hanging on over the river was going to play out, same with Albert, Tris, and the knifes. Is there a certain level of formula to the story? sure. But it's young adult and fiction. Even one of my favorite series, Dresden Files, gets quite formulaic. But at the end of the day, it's about the characters. And I do want to know what happens with Tris and the others, even the despicable characters. Hope Roth pulls this series off. If she does, she goes to #3 on my fav fiction writer list under Jim Butcher, with George R.R. Martin at the top.
Narrator was fantastic with this story. Onto the next book in the series.

Save your credit for something else

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Better writing, where were the editors in this book? Or better yet, the author could really benefit from some writing workshops. However, since this series is so popular, the author is probably laughing all the way to the bank. Why improve your craft if horrible writing makes a lot of money?
What was most disappointing about E L James’s story?
Terrible writing. I would expect better writing out of a class of advanced high school English / literature students. I don't understand how this is popular. As badly written as Twilight was, at least there was a payoff if you took the book as a romance book. I don't understand the attraction to Christian at all. And the book could be much more tightly written.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The poor narrator did not have much to work with here. The narrator was fine.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fifty Shades of Grey?
Tighten the book up. It takes too long to get going.

Terrible, terrible narration
Revisado: 01-01-11
I would have been better served to buy the Kindle version of this book and use the text to speech function. The narration would have been better. The narrator is terrible on this book, very monotone. I would like to give some insight into the content of the book, but no matter how hard I tried to pay attention, the narration blanked out my mind. A total waste of my credit. I wish I could get a refund.
