It's painful, but the story gets better if you push through it. Soldier on.
Vikas Adams always does a great job, so no surprise there. Thank you and ily, Vikas. <3

Will peaceful days never come for Antthony and The Colony?? Freshly escaped from his adventures in Book IV, our beloved hero and his companions find themselves back in the living company of the family. My, how things have changed in his absence! Both new and familiar faces appear in the battle, while surprises and excitement lurk around each corner in the most exhilarating installment yet!
I saw another review where the reader claimed that the siege was "hard to follow". That person must not be into action stories at all. The wonderful narration makes the points of view very easy to follow, and the thrilling battles will have you on the edge of your seat!

The newest addition to my Top 5 favorite books. An epic story, phenomenally told, and narrated perfectly. Don't just sit there; hurry up and buy it!
(not a paid promotion. just very enthusiastic and avoiding *any* spoilers.)

Fun story with likable characters and unique plot points. This series isn't heavy on stats, so if you're looking for that just know the author doesn't assign numerical value to absolutely everything to define power. Most of the story is written as first-person internal monologue which, for me at least, helps with picturing what's happening. The world is fleshed out enough that it's pretty easy to slip into and understand what's happening if you're at all familiar with the genre, but manages to not fall into the pitfall of cliche very often at all (which isn't easy at this point, let's be honest).

I really like the narration, but may be described as leaning a tiny bit towards monotone by anyone who's into big, dramatic performance. The voice and tone of the reader is easy on the ears while binging; not high pitched, shouty, or trying to sound constantly excited. The voices given to characters aren't extremely dissimilar, mostly a small change to inflection or accent, which may be a turn off to some listeners. I personally am so, so, so grateful that the girl characters (so far) aren't made to sound very high pitch and whiny like most narration by men. This reading was done with dignity and I will look into more from the same.

Painful to listen to. I've heard so many people recommend this story that I actually wasted a credit on it. Book one was a slog, and I gave up entirely somewhere just shy of halfway through book two. If the story is intriguing at all, this narration drained it like a fun vampire. I'm now actively pursuing a side career in narration just so there's one more person putting out readings who actually enjoy what they're reading instead of performing like a 1990s Clear Eyes commercial.
