Not terrible but not great

First Narration and performance were spot on for Marc Thompson. I know sometimes his choice of voices can rankle some, but the man is dedicated to give an immersive telling of the story.
What I did not like was what seemed like a complete usurping of very good ground work that was lain by the previous adult novels in the high republic. If you've read or listened to them you will know what I mean. I also don't like how the Jedi are portrayed as basically bumbling idiots, making mistake after increasingly infuriating mistake, in what is supposed to be the height of their power. I find their lack of wisdom disturbing.
Also the complete removal of some characters, the lack of continuing development of main characters being relegated to very minor or basically NPC's in this novel, was quite annoying. Found myself hanging on for hours waiting for characters that never showed, or were completely inconsequential. I have in the past enjoyed some of this authors writing, mainly "Master and Apprentice". This novel some how seemed like the author had a grudge and wanted to completely undo or not really expand on what happened in previous 2 novels, just to give characters from their young adult novel "Into the dark" more relevance.
P.S.... I'm not saying this is a terribly bad stand alone novel. It is however a lack luster conclusion to a series that was full of potential.
