Historia
Jessica James is broke and counting down the days until she can defend her philosophy thesis. Desperate to get out of her grubby attic digs, she and her friends break into her professor’s office…only to find her adviser dead in the tub. Scoping the crime scene for clues, she leaves evidence that makes her both a suspect and a target. Suspecting the school's Russian janitor of doing more than sweeping the floors, Jessica mounts an investigation. Her ragtag posse helps her uncover a related date-drug scandal, and she fears she’s the next on the killer’s to-do list.

A glimpse into a young life
Revisado: 09-29-18
The author/narrator had great voices, and the bones of an interesting story. However, I would have liked to hear more about what she thought of and did during her young life. The musical accompaniment was not necessary, and a few parts were a little over dramatized by the reader, but overall an enjoyable glimpse into a very interesting young life.

Storyline barely hangs together
Revisado: 04-02-18
I can only assume that the publisher was so desperate for another tale from Lilian that s/he grabbed a half- finished draft from the authors protesting hands and published it. I have lived Lilian’s previous stories, but this was a huge disappointment. He story is only sketched in, characters are not developed, and the “murder” remains unsolved, assume there was a murder at all. Shame on everyone except George Guidall who puts in another impeccable performance.

Couldn't get past the Narrator
Revisado: 08-14-17
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator was terrible. I could not even get past the first chapter, so I have not idea how good the book was. The narrator had no intonation in her voice. Sounded like a young teenager reading.

Historia
Lady Amanda Golightly of Belchester Towers is a person in complete contrast to the stereotypical image of her upper-class breeding. She is short, portly, and embarrassingly forthright. On a visit to a local nursing home, she unexpectedly discovers a long-lost friend, Hugo Cholmondley-Crichton-Crump - and stumbles upon a murder. The pair turn to sleuthing after Lady Amanda reports her appalling discovery to the local police inspector, who treats her as a silly old biddy with an overactive imagination.

Totally enjoyable
Revisado: 01-03-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend the entire series. Start at the beginning though!
Which character – as performed by Robert Ian Mackenzie – was your favorite?
Robert Ian Mckenzie is a brilliant reader and does everyone's voice to perfection, but I think this time I liked the Russian Artist voice the best. So rich and full. I could just picture him!

Nice, but not on par with Scotland Street or #1 Ladies
Revisado: 07-21-15
This is a sweet story about a young woman learning to have empathy for others. Despite the ominous tone at several stages of the book, nothing really awful ever happens to the main characters, just normal life stuff. Which is one reason we all like Alex. McCall Smith, right? Unfortunately, nothing really interesting ever happens either. A nice light piece of entertainment, but not even close to being on par with Scotland Street or #1 Ladies Detective Agency.

Untidy ending is uncharacteristic of author
Revisado: 05-09-15
Not my favorite of McCall Smith's work. The story line dragged and the ending was uncharacteristically inconclusive. Pass on this story and you won't be missing much, sorry to say.
