Pretty dang good.
Revisado: 06-06-24
This is a pretty dang good scifi book. The story is engaging and makes you want to listen to just one more chapter. The only con is that it's largest chapter is just an absolute slog to get through. It felt like pure plot armor. But if you can hang on you're rewarded with really satisfying ending.

This book is garbage.
Revisado: 03-06-23
This book was a pointless slog. It reads like a college writing exercise and not a novel by a seasoned professional writer. It did not tell and interesting story, had little to no character growth, and a stupid ending. This was a 10 hour waste of time. The narration was alright. There were editing issues, but don't worry, the story sucks so bad, you won't notice.

Not a bad sequel.
Revisado: 10-12-22
If you're a fan of Crichton then this is right up your alley. The book is more of what he is known for: Over explanations of vaguely plausible technology, philosophical discussions and ponderings at times that don't seem very appropriate for the situations the characters find themselves in, And an underlining allegory for the hubris of man. Oh and Dinosaurs.

My God it's depressing.
Revisado: 03-16-22
This book is terrible and was a slog to get through. It's dark and depressing for the sake of being dark and depressing. It felt like every time the plot started to weave an interesting narrative it was cut short because it wasn't bleak enough for the world Atwood was building. However, with all that said, I think the novel would have been OK if it wasn't for that ending. It abruptly ends where the climax should've begun. Atwood spent the entire novel crafting this oppressive dystopian world, filled it with human suffering from people that at their core all seem to be victims of their own situations... And then ended the book with absolutely no closure. Nothing. This is then followed up by an exposition dump of an epilouge of what people in the future think might have happened, but who knows!? The tonal shift at the end gave me whiplash. It felt like after all that Atwood didn't know how to end her own novel.
The one redeeming quality is that Claire Danes did an amazing job with the narration. She gave life where there was none, an interesting voice to an otherwise flat character, and depth to an unrelentingly sad book.

An abrupt ending to an otherwise great book.
Revisado: 10-29-21
This is a really quick read (listen). The story is engaging and the narration is great. I was just not a fan of the ending. Being that this is based on a true story I found the end to be abrupt and felt like it lacked conclusion. But that might just be me. Would still recommend to others.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?
