Was the narrator 13?
Revisado: 10-15-23
The story was fine, a bit unbelievable towards the end and super dragged out. But the narrator completely took me out of this story and made it extremely difficult to listen to.

Historia
Drought has settled on the town of Peaches, California. The area of the Central Valley where fourteen-year-old Lacey May and her alcoholic mother live was once an agricultural paradise. Now it's an environmental disaster, a place of cracked earth and barren raisin farms. In their desperation, residents have turned to a cult leader named Pastor Vern for guidance. He promises, through secret "assignments," to bring the rain everybody is praying for.

Rich, compelling, and unforgettable
Revisado: 10-03-23
The complexities of this story and the author's attention to detail on top of the absolutely killer narration made me swallow this book up in one sitting.

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Thank you, Dave

To Dave - While you probably do not read Audible Book reviews I am writing this review to you. 9 months ago I lost my husband to prostate cancer. He was 52. Your stories and memories bright me back to our time together when we fell in love. Rob took me to so many concerts and had such an eclectic taste in music. So many of your musical icons and inspirations were also Rob’s musical icons. Your story connected me deeper with Rob. Crying so many times as I remembered his kind smile, flannel and band T-shirt. He too dressed like he was in 9th grade much to his daughters’ chagrin. Thank you! ~Sheila F
