A perfect homage and reclaiming.
Revisado: 10-26-23
You can tell that every person involved in the writing, producing, and performing of this audio series treasured the characters and universe of Buffy. It’s funny, smart, faithful where it needs to be, and even more inclusive than Buffy ever was. This was such a special gift for Buffy fans. And thank you Amber Benson and Christopher Golden for Indira. She’s a special character.

Femme, gay teen podcaster Riley Weaver has made it to junior year, which means he can finally apply for membership into the Gaybutante Society, the LGBTQ+ organization that has launched dozens of queer teens' careers in pop culture, arts, and activism. The process to get into the society is a marathon of charity events, parties, and general gay chaos, culminating in the annual Gaybutante Ball. The one requirement for the ball? A date.

Revisado: 06-13-23
I love when an author can narrate their own book and Jason June absolutely made the right choice to do it here. This is a sweet, heartfelt, wonderful story.

Historia
First published in 1921, Karel Capek's ultra-prescient play R.U.R has become a classic of dystopian literature, giving us the word 'robot' and inspiring movies and TV series from Blade Runner to Westworld. Set in Capek's 1920s version of the future, this radio reimagining blends music, comedy and drama to tell the story of a world dominated by mechanisation and the pursuit of profit.

I don’t even know what to say here. This is a lot of fun. It’s nuts. There are jaunty musical numbers about getting your head cut off. I have a pretty high threshold for weird things, so I enjoyed it overall. I suspect a great many people will not share those feelings.

Historia
I loathe Alastor Shaw. The city of San Francisco thinks we’re rival artists. In truth, we’re predators battling for hunting ground. We never chased the same prey. Until the night we both laid eyes on Mara Eldritch. Shaw wants to use her as a pawn in his twisted game. I’m fixated on her for a different reason.

Very dark, but well narrated.
Revisado: 02-13-23
If you already know what the story is about, I won’t belabor it. The narrators here are very good and they definitely bring the characters to life. Part of me would have liked if the music from the book was integrated, but that would have probably cost a fortune. It’s just hard to listen to the audio and the music at the same time.

Historia
Set in the 1950’s Paris of American expatriates, liaisons, and violence, a young man finds himself caught between desire and conventional morality. With a sharp, probing imagination, James Baldwin’s now-classic narrative delves into the mystery of loving and creates a moving, highly controversial story of death and passion that reveals the unspoken complexities of the human heart.

Perfect book, imperfect narration.
Revisado: 02-10-23
I don’t want to criticize the narrator too much; there’s a lot that he does right here. But he fails completely when it comes to the accents. This is not a minor thing because there are a lot of non-English phrases and speakers, and there’s literally no differentiation. But he does very well with the lyricism of Baldwin’s prose.

Historia
"Call me Ishmael." Thus starts the greatest American novel. Melville said himself that he wanted to write "a mighty book about a mighty theme" and so he did. It is a story of one man's obsessive revenge-journey against the white whale, Moby-Dick, who injured him in an earlier meeting. Woven into the story of the last journey of The Pequod is a mesh of philosophy, rumination, religion, history, and a mass of information about whaling through the ages.

Excellent narration vastly improved the story.

The narrator did an excellent job of highlighting the humor of the book, which is not something that is obvious when just reading it yourself. The final chapters were really well done and I would recommend if you challenge yourself to read the book, listen to this audio with it.

As horror, it succeeds very well. It’s not for everyone. I thought the narrator did a great job. She managed to give the sense of the different characters with just a change in pacing or emphasis. Really great work.

There's a saying that goes, "Experience is the best kind of teacher." I am here to tell you that experience is the worst kind of teacher. Looking back on my career, I wish I would have avoided all of these mistakes, taking instead the wise advice of those around me, implementing the suggestions I was given over the years, and not being as stubborn. Fortunately, I did figure things out, and I hope you can learn a few important lessons from my ups and downs over the years.

Awful. Sexist, bible-thumping crap
- De snipe en 04-15-20
Dated and narrow in its language and vision.
Revisado: 06-19-22
There were so many points where I cringed listening to this. The language is not inclusive and it was written in 2017, not 1917. And I’m not talking about proper pronouns or things that people are still working on. I’m talking about acknowledging that women are bosses as well, people who are fat are not necessarily lazy, not everyone is a Christian. Stuff like that. I also thought the narrator was a mistake. She had enthusiasm but not skill. The information wasn’t completely useless, even though it wasn’t exactly groundbreaking. But with language that shuts out a huge percentage of the listeners/readers, you are not doing a good job of getting your point across.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

Sam Champion is the ideal man.
Revisado: 06-19-22
I read a lot of romance and the heroes are so often unhealthy in their behavior. I don’t mind it most of the time because I’m an adult and I know how to separate from that reality. But honestly I needed Sam and Gwen. The writing is so vivid. The dialogue is so natural. And the performances are spot on. Really enjoyed this.
