Historia
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

Outstanding! So beautifully human and real.
Revisado: 11-10-24
the fact that Riley was such a big part of this made it so much better! Also, using Lisa's own recordings was a big plus, I wish there'd been far more! I feel like I could have listened for 12 hours straight, it was so engaging.
I worked at Graceland from 96-02. I met and talked to Lisa Marie for about 10 mins, just the two of us, a couple of Memphis kids, only a few years apart in age, shooting the breeze. she was beautiful, inside and out.

Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Michael Beck brought this great story to LIFE!
Revisado: 12-14-23
I was born and raised in Memphis, so I'm well familiar with most of the scenarios in JG's books. I have enjoyed the several that I have read, but no longer have time to sit and read. I do have plenty of time to listen though. After being enthralled by Michael Beck's narration on "The boys from Biloxi", I marveled at how realistic his southern accents are, only to look him up and find that he too, is from Memphis!
MB really makes these stories leap off the page and right into my head/imagination!
Not sure which one is next, but I'm going to pick it now.

Historia
Sona Movsesian didn’t wake up one day and decide to become the World’s Worst Assistant. Achieving such greatness is a gradual process—one that starts with long hours and hard work before it eventually descends into sneaking low-dosage edibles into your lunch and napping on your boss’s couch.

Would have been better if it were fiction
Revisado: 10-15-22
Although I completely enjoy Sona on all of Conan's endeavors, I would prefer her lack of effort and motivation be a "bit".
That said, the book is well-written, and Sona does a great job of narrating.
It is also completely delightful as an illustration of a wonderful and fun
boss/employee relationship!

Like an Underworld alternate origin!
Revisado: 03-10-22
Loved this audiobook! it really had a Celina/Underworld vibe to it, but was still a different approach to the Vampire genre. I wasn't really familiar with the performers, with the exception of the great Liam Cunningham, whom I recognized by ear immediately!
The story was original, well-paced, well- performed, and left an opening for a sequel.
Great job!

Historia
William Pepper was James Earl Ray's lawyer in the trial for the murder of Martin Luther King, Jr., and even after Ray's conviction and death, Pepper continues to adamantly argue Ray's innocence. This myth-shattering expose is a revised, updated, and heavily expanded volume of Pepper's original best-selling and critically-acclaimed book of the same name, with 26 years of additional research included. The result reveals dramatic new details of the night of the murder, the trial, and why Ray was chosen to take the fall for an evil conspiracy.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Historia
In Stalling for Time, the FBI’s chief hostage negotiator takes readers on a harrowing tour through many of the most famous hostage crises in the history of the modern FBI, including the siege at Waco, the Montana Freemen standoff, and the D.C. sniper attacks. Having helped develop the FBI’s nonviolent communication techniques for achieving peaceful outcomes in tense situations, Gary Noesner offers a candid, fascinating look back at his years as an innovator in the ranks of the Bureau and a pioneer on the front lines.

talk about drinking the Kool-aid!
Revisado: 04-27-20
First, I did like the author/narrator's voice, it was performed well. However, I didn't get through his account of events surrounding the Waco siege.
He kept referring to David Koresh as the "sinful messiah", which I found disrespectful to the dead that innocently believed in Koresh' teachings. After watching the most recent Waco dramatization. and listening to David Thibideau's audiobook, the author continually disparaged, and took cheap shots at the Branch Davidians, even continuing to refer to "Mt. Carmel", as the Davidians called it, as "Ranch Apocalypse".
The issue with the Waco siege was not Koresh' alleged child abuse, but should have been the atrocities/overeach of the FBI, the ATF, and the HRT.
The author seemed to automatically accept the disgruntled former members' account of Koresh' foibles. I'm in no way a fan of David Koresh, nor do I find him innocent, not by a long shot, but the bloodlust of the FBI, after having lost agents in an unwarranted attack on dozens of women and children was all too obvious in the aftermath of the initial attack on the Davidians.
In my opinion, if you want a true account of what happened in Waco, listen to David Thibodeau's book.
