Historia
In 1977, Claire Lake, Oregon, was shaken by the Lady Killer Murders: Two men, seemingly randomly, were murdered with the same gun, with strange notes left behind. Beth Greer was the perfect suspect - a rich, eccentric 23-year-old woman, seen fleeing one of the crimes. But she was acquitted, and she retreated to the isolation of her mansion.

Could have done without the paranormal
Revisado: 06-19-22
I thought this was a true crime, but there is some paranormal storyline too. I was really hoping it would all be explained in reality but it wasnt.

Had to struggle past some bad writing at the start
Revisado: 05-31-22
The writing setting up some of the characters was a little cliché and cringy. But once I powered through that, the writing either improved or the actual content of the story was intriguing enough I didn't notice. Like an early scene in a bar has the main character, a cop, putting her hand on her gun to intimate a guy that was hitting on her. It was just so "bad tv" it made my skin crawl. And I think the author worked to hard over explaining how "cool but damaged" the main character was. That all said, I'm glad I powered through because the thriller part kept me guessing, and I wasn't expecting that.

Historia
In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

Narration got better
Revisado: 04-03-22
I almost didn't get past the first chapter due to the smug tone the narrator chose. But thankfully it disappeared and I enjoyed the story.

Historia
Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Surprised I enjoyed it without being a parent
Revisado: 04-04-21
I don't like children, but I love crime books. this was surprisingly good. I wrongly assumed since it was so focused on motherhood that I would need to have that kind of feeling to connect with the book. I really enjoyed it!
