Historia
By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

eye opening
Revisado: 10-28-23
this book really hit home for me. it has also opened many doors for my ctpsd. I'm no longer afraid to do the emdr therapy. I also don't feel alone in my trauma. I wish I could speak with the writer directly and share some of the things I have learned over the years that helps with the mind body connection. I bought multiple copy to give to those who are ready. totally worth the money.

Historia
I hear you. I see you. You matter. Every child yearns to hear these words, as does the child within us all. But what if the essence of self is repressed by childhood conditioning before life hardly begins? Being denied the ability to think and feel for oneself prevents the child from evolving into adulthood unscathed, instead weighed down with fear and anxiety. Uprooting Shame and Guilt unravels the author’s journey in extracting herself from childhood trauma and dogma, finding refuge in the power of the mind and freedom from outdated beliefs.

Historia
Rooted in her experiences growing up in an evangelical Christian family, Jamie Lee Finch’s You Are Your Own offers an overview of evangelicalism and the painful confusion and anxiety experienced under its demands. Finch explores the mechanisms of trauma and how fundamentalist denominations match the patterns connected with PTSD. She elaborates on the doubt, guilt, fear, and grief that haunt those leaving the evangelical faith and offers an approach to help them recover healthy self-worth and resilience.

painful truths
Revisado: 08-08-23
this book is full of painful truths. I struggle with cptsd from sexual abuse. after working with different therapists for years I found shame was at the core but it wasn't shame from the sa events in my life but shame for being a human. which this book addressed. as someone going through deconstruction, it's not an easy task and this book allows me to see this in someone else. thank you.
