Historia
When Lyn Slater started her fashion blog, Accidental Icon, at age sixty-one, she discovered that followers were flocking to her account for more than just her A-list style. As Lyn flaunted gray hair, wrinkles, and a megadose of self-acceptance, they found in her an alternative model of older life: someone who defied the stereotypes, refused to become invisible, and showed that all women have the opportunity to be relevant and take major risks at any stage of their life. Youth is not the only time we can be experimental. How to Be Old tells the ten-year story of Lyn’s sixties.

So disappointed
Revisado: 12-15-24
I had such high hopes for this book. A friend read it with her eyes & loved it. Unfortunately the author read this book.. so monotonous and S L O W. I had to speed it up to 1.35 which was a regular sounding speaking cadence, just so I wouldn't fall asleep. I will borrow the paper version of the book & take a look if it seems better than the awful audio. Her voice is the polar opposite of what one would imagine compaired with her persona. A better choice would have been a professional reader or actor. Blah!

Historia
Food has always been an integral part of Stanley Tucci’s life: from stracciatella soup served in the shadow of the Pantheon, to marinara sauce cooked between scene rehearsals and costume fittings, to home-made pizza eaten with his children before bedtime. Now, in What I Ate in One Year Tucci records twelve months of eating—in restaurants, kitchens, film sets, press junkets, at home and abroad, with friends, with family, with strangers, and occasionally just by himself.

Mostly boring after awhile
Revisado: 11-10-24
I am a fan of Stanley T's work, love his acting, his previous book, and Italy show. This book was a real stretch. I jumped in with both feet looking forward to another interesting book. Naw, it was tedious & repetitive, then more tedious & repetitive... a few slices of his life with his never ending social life, cooking - (only Italian) for family & friends. It's annoying to listen to an American speaker using British pronunciation interspersed with American English. If you're speaking American call it gas, not petrol as an example... just saying. Half way through, I couldn't wait for it to end. I liked parts of it but there too much of it.

Needs editing- ok story
Revisado: 09-02-24
Historical fiction about the craft of hand made glass in Murano Italy. Unfortunately the author uses the unfortunate device of skipping centuries with the same characters, instead of just skipping ahead to allow the story of glass unfold on its own . The book spends way too much time in the early chapters setting up the story, then the subsequent chapters are compressed in a strange way with the skipping of time, ending with the recent pandemic.
Hard to keep track of who is who with so many characters all with Italian names.

Kept waiting for it to improve
Revisado: 07-12-24
What a boring book about the author's short friendship with a semi famous person, who is not of interest to many people in our current time. If you are a person curious about the era of the Vietnam Nam war period you may find this of slight interest. There is nothing to give away as the book has no plot twist or other usual elements of memoir writing. The book is about the psychological decline Tony Russo post Pentagon Papers/Vietnam Nam war... the author was enraptured by is fame regarding his part in the Pentagon Papers.
I kept waiting for the book to improve or pick up. It never does. Further, the author reads it herself, she is very monotone. BORING!

Historia
Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t. They broke up five months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends. Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade.

Predictable
Revisado: 06-09-24
Not for anyone over age 35, some psychological insights don't show up until the end... Very Hallmark schmaltzy, predictable, wishful thinking fantasy with some great sex scenes. Unfortunately I was 1/2 into it... before I figured out how boring it was.. so finished it reluctantly, but if you are under 30 you will probably love it. I won't read anything else by this author.

Schmaltzy predictable
Revisado: 07-31-23
I’ve enjoyed other titles by this author .
Having just finished The Covenant of Water, I needed something light and easy… So I turned to Hildebrand. This met my criteria, but not in the way I desired. I was going to stop 1/2 through, but persisted on. It was not my cup of tea… it was more like a sugary drink with too many flavors all mixed together.

Over the top: obsessive compulsive
Revisado: 05-08-23
I really liked the information to a point, except the author's psychological wounds (which he goes into in the last chapter) are a case study in obsessive compulsive behavior. If he felt better about himself, he wouldn't have been so obsessed with including every molecule of information which the average reader/listener will never put into action or follow. I didn't realize this is what his obsession was about. Making sure everyone, but most of all himself, sees him as a very accomplished person who has done an exemplary job of writing this book. Since he seems to follow his own advice, I wonder how he has time to work at his day job while, exercising compulsively, eating his chosen diet religiously, while spending time every day writing in his journal, meditating, going to therapy, keeping track of all the latest statistics in science and longevity.
If you want to know how a very bright person with OCD writes a book, enjoy!

Jerry Saltz is one of our most-watched writers about art and artists and a passionate champion of the importance of art in our shared cultural life. Since the 1990s he has been an indispensable cultural voice: Witty and provocative, he has attracted contemporary listeners to fine art as few critics have.

WRONG for audio program
Revisado: 11-07-22
Jerry Saltz is clearly a VERY BRIGHT critic and author. What he needs to do is teach a college course on twenty first century art criticism in which he can show images of what he is talking about, and continue to brag about all the who's who, and what's what he is exposed to. Listening to this book is similar to listening my boring uncle go on and on about all his friends who I don't know, and have zero interest in knowing. I'm two hours into the book and I'm DONE! BORING BORING BORING!!!!
When he discusses artists without visual references or images, it is like listening to someone blather on and on without
knowing what they are talking about. He is preaching to his own inner circle of NYC art sophisticates. I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, I'm an educated visual artist (west coast) and I have no idea what he is discussing and no visual reference to refer to, and listening is not the right format. This book was a huge error on the part of Audible. Because I already returned a book in the recent past, sadly I'm unable to return this title.

The age of rock and roll in an era of consequence, what will be considered one of the great watersheds in modern history. Wenner writes with the clarity of a journalist and an essayist. He takes us into the life and work of Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bono, and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few.

What an amazing life story for those of us who are baby boomers
& and lovers of rock & roll . Jann Wenner certainly has reason to write his life story. What a life he has led, the people who he considers his pals & friends & associates are a who’s who of popular culture of our time. As publisher of Rolling Stone.. this book is a front row seat and behind the scenes look at what most of us can only imagine. Bravo!!!

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Fantastic Must Listen 👍🏼
Revisado: 07-19-22
This book is a “must read” for all who have & have not had first hand experience with the inequality of the sexes. References baby boomers will relate to…filled with interesting characters… pertinent social issues
cloaked as fiction. Believable characters & development… good twists & turns in the story line.
Bravo!!!
