When Boreas died on that surgical table back in his home world, his mortal body remained on Earth, but his soul, striving for something more, was reborn. In another world, he became Hadjar Darkhan, the son of a King and Queen. He had only his neural network and the burning aches and desires from his previous life to guide him.

Thrown into the tournament, Roy finds that there are more than a few challengers who outclass him. The secret to victory lies between the pages of an ancient book and newly-awakened senses he does not fully understand.

Scraps, a gutter child, is sitting in his hiding place in a back alley, waiting for the cold thunderstorm to pass. Suddenly, lightning strikes in front of him, and then a second time. The two lightning bolts become men — two wizards — one from the Red Order, the other from the Blue. The Red Wizard, chanting his curses, throws lightning bolts and fireballs. The Blue Wizard, singing his spells, throws lightning bolts and ice shards.

Questions abound, and the mystery surrounding his Core's strange behavior plagues his every waking moment. Finding answers will mean confronting a past he'd thought was long behind him. After escaping Doragon’s clutches, Roy finds himself stranded in the Windblight, a harsh desert under the control of a rival clan - one that won’t think twice about tossing him in their fighting arena to pay off a perceived debt. Meanwhile, Aika, Ferry, and Hermit face their own problems in the form of retribution from the Itachi clan. While Hermit might be a Sovereign, his sister carries the same title.

The North is under siege by Octagon the Bitter and his horde of twisted monsters. All but two cities have fallen and their forces are dwindling by the day. With little choice remaining, Morgan sets out on his own to try and convince the rulers of the other Kingdoms to join in their cause. Convincing rulers who have been at each other's throats for centuries will not be easy, and Morgan has doubts as to whether they'll even listen. Still, for the sake of everyone in the Five Kingdoms, he has to try, even if it costs him everything.
