Historia
One of the most significant books ever written by a head of state, the Meditations are a collection of philosophical thoughts by the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121 - 180 ce). Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.

Why these cartoon character narrators?
Revisado: 07-17-22
Was Marcus Aurelius British? Does any British accent instantly make something more intellectual? This narrator sounds like a cartoon english butler. Why are half the books on stoicism narrated by these corny ass British guys? Marcus wasn’t British. I’m guessing he didn’t have a monocle and sip tea with biscuits either. I don’t even know if I can finish this book. Why not a wild and thick Cajun accent? Why not have joe Pesci do a hyperbolic noir gangster narration? Why not a fucking pirate? Or an east LA cholo? How about a super obnoxious coked up morning radio shock jock voice? This is as unlistenable as some of audibles books that sounds like a human trying to do their best Siri impersonation. No wonder it’s currently part of the free pile

Skip the second book
Revisado: 05-22-22
The first book is short and sweet. Actually wish it was longer and deeper. The second book is generic life advice. Some of which isn’t even great advice. I really wasn’t interested in it’s preaching about the moral corruption of the nuclear family. Not sure what it has to do with minimalism. I could have lived my life just fine without the generic advice and morality opinions. Exercise routines for “your kids”? What does that have to do with minimalism? Carbs are a critically important part of your diet? The crap advice goes on in on in no apparent cohesive concept. Throw the second book away and just listen to one of your dumb coworkers rant about how they think everyone should live.

Historia
A talk by Terence McKenna about how our global culture is preparing to depart for the stars, so we must begin to pack for the trip. He begins with a discussion of botanical dimensions of folk medicine which are lost in pharmacology and how this is being uncovered by the New Age archaic revival. McKenna envisions an end to the current age, which has consisted of eons of boredom. He goes on to discuss the growing wonder of the universe as presented by leading astronomers Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan.

There is a glitch or a mistake. If it’s not a glitch with the app somebody should be ashamed that they let this get posted. The talk ends and then there is approximately 15 mins of silence and then the talk starts over again briefly before ending abruptly.

Historia
Death is not waiting for us at the end of a long road. Death is always with us, in the marrow of every passing moment. She is the secret teacher hiding in plain sight, helping us to discover what matters most. Life and death are a package deal. They cannot be pulled apart, and we cannot truly live unless we are aware of death. The Five Invitations is an exhilarating meditation on the meaning of life and how maintaining an ever-present consciousness of death can bring us closer to our truest selves.

A wonderful book
Revisado: 02-06-22
I highly recommend this book. The first few chapters are worth the price of admission. This book would be invaluable for anyone working in capacity of taking care of others. As american I feel we ignore death. We must focus on it in order to truly live. This book has a great amount to teach about compassion. The authors voice is extremely soothing, genuine and heartfelt.

Feels like a rough draft
Revisado: 01-30-22
I guess my expectations were too high? I found myself pushing to get through it sifting for gold and finding sparkly fluff. Feels more like a 10 hour podcast than a book that someone spent a lot of time and boiled down to a dense essence. Wasn’t bad. Just felt like it should have been two hours. Maybe others have pushed my standards too high. I think he pushed out quantity over quality

Historia
For much of his life, historian Howard Zinn chronicled American history from the bottom up, throwing out the official version taught in schools - with its emphasis on great men in high places - to focus on the street, the home, and the workplace. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History of the United States is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers.
