Historia
England, 1840. For the two decades following the death of her beloved sister, Jane, Cassandra Austen has lived alone and unwed, spending her days visiting friends and relations and quietly, purposefully working to preserve her sister’s reputation. Now in her 60s and increasingly frail, Cassandra goes to stay with the Fowles of Kintbury, family of her long-dead fiancé, in search of a trove of Jane’s letters. Dodging her hostess and a meddlesome housemaid, Cassandra eventually hunts down the letters and confronts the secrets they hold.

Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

Don't expect a "bodice ripper." This story unfolded gradually, giving you hope, making you question. It was a wonderful journey that addresses a really important issue in today's world. I laughed. I cried. I smiled in the end. Completely worth the time.

Reeling from the humiliation of a double dumping in one day, Georgina takes the next job that comes her way - bartender in a newly opened pub. There’s only one problem: It’s run by the guy she fell in love with years ago. And - make that two problems - he doesn’t remember her. At all. But she has fabulous friends and her signature hot pink fur coat...what more could a girl really need?

Totally worth the time
Revisado: 01-12-20
I loved this book. The author did a masterful job feeding us small pieces of the bigger puzzle, keeping us drawn in to the story.
It's not a bodice ripper with throbbing and thumping. It's a grown up story for grownups, set in our modern world. I particularly like the little Brit-wit references. An engaging story all around.

For Susan Green, messy emotions don’t fit into the equation of her perfectly ordered life. She has a flat that is ideal for one, a job that suits her passion for logic, and an “interpersonal arrangement” that provides cultural and other more intimate benefits. But suddenly confronted with the loss of her mother and the news that she is about to become a mother herself, Susan’s greatest fear is realized. She is losing control.

This story started well and had some surprises along the way, but in the end became predictable. The most disconcerting part was the reader's voice characterizations. All the male characters sounded like 75 year old pirates!

When the spirit of Lara’s great-aunt Sadie–a feisty, demanding girl with firm ideas about fashion, love, and the right way to dance–mysteriously appears, she has one last request: Lara must find a missing necklace that had been in Sadie’s possession for more than seventy-five years, and Sadie cannot rest without it. Lara, on the other hand, has a number of ongoing distractions. Her best friend and business partner has run off to Goa, her start-up company is floundering, and she’s just been dumped by the “perfect” man.

Not my favorite!
Revisado: 05-29-18
This took a very long time to pull together. Even then it wasn't Sophie Kinsella's best work. I found both the female lead characters unsympathetic and frequently annoying. and although this IS fiction, much of it was either preposterous or predictable. Of course, Rosalind Landor did her customary great job with the narration. I've enjoyed other Kinsella novels, but this one missed the mark for me.
