The author graduated from college in 1976 and from Medical School in 1980. His collegiate activities included singing in the choir, sprinting on the track team, acting, playing the piano, chess, archery, kung fu, and intramural flag football. He was published in his college’s literary magazine and enjoyed writing poetry. During summers he worked as a lifeguard at a public swimming pool in Houston, and he began teaching piano lessons as early as his junior year in high school. After graduating from medical school, the author moved several states away and returned to college for advanced communications training; and following these studies, he matriculated in yet another college to study Greek. Following officer indoctrination training in Corpus Christi, Texas, the author served for a time at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. After an honorable discharge from the military, he and his wife returned to Texas and opened a medical practice in Dripping Springs—a town that had been without a physician for twenty-five years. While practicing medicine in the hill country of Texas, the author wrote poems that were featured in his local newspaper, and also composed the music and lyrics for several songs. Writing stories has been a part of his life since elementary school. The author’s favorite books include The Space Trilogy and The Chronicles of Narnia by Clive Staples Lewis; and among his favorite movies are productions from novels by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien as well as Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion by Jane Austen. Activities he enjoys include collecting rocks and shells, body surfing on ocean waves, and listening to audiobooks.
