Peter Stansky is Frances and Charles Field Professor of History, Emeritus, Stanford University. Stansky received his first BA in History from Yale, and a few years later received a second BA in History from King's College, Cambridge. He contemplated a career in law, but rather did a Ph.D. in History at Harvard University where until 1968, when he left to join the Stanford faculty, where he has remained since. He is the author of "The First Day of the Blitz," and "Edward Upward: Art and Life," among many other books. He and William Abrahams wrote together "Journey to the Frontier: Two Roads to the Spanish Civil War," "The Unknown Orwell," "Orwell: The Transformation," "London's Burning: Life, Death, and Art in the Second World War," and "Julian Bell: From Bloomsbury to the Spanish Civil War."
