Martin Archer is the pen name of the economics professor, art collector, and once upon a time soldier and politician, John Lindauer. He writes for his own pleasure and is old enough to remember when newspapers and news networks were reliable and Cadillac was the epitome of luxury cars. He would greatly value hearing from you. More specifically, Martin Archer is the author of the many exciting and action packed stories in "The Company of Archers" saga. They are set in medieval England at the dawn of Britain's great merchant companies and the emergence of the kingdom as a great military power. Martin is also the author of the earlier "Soldiers and Marines" novels about the life and career a young soldier who stays on active duty as a professional and fights in various wars from Korea to the Middle East, and in several imagined, but very possibly coming, future wars involving the Kurds, Chinese, Russians, and Israelis. Martin is also the author of the action-packed crime novel "Cage's Crew" where the main character is, somewhat uniquely, a dangerous professional criminal and the co-author, with Jacqueline Lindauer, of the comedy "The Great ERA Conspiracy" which pokes fun at the FBI and all sorts of righteous prigs and do-gooders. The books of "The Company of Archers" saga are set in medieval Britain - a dangerous and brutal land which forces many Englishmen to become soldiers or mercenaries or join the crusades to escape their fates and seek their fortunes - much as the author did when he was a young man, The Company of Archers saga begins with "The Archers." It follows a young villager who escapes serfdom and leaves England when his priestly older brother takes him crusading with a company of King Richard's archers. Years later the young man himself is the company's captain and he leads its handful of survivors as they attempt to fight their way home to England. The second book "The Archer's Castle" follows William and his men in the fighting and intrigue of medieval England when they return enriched by the coins they've obtained by carrying refugees and pilgrims to safety in the face of Saracen invaders and Moorish pirates - and then sail east again to get even more.
