Dr. Betty Martin has had her hands on people professionally for over 40 years. Prior to founding the School of Consent in 2018, she had a private practice as a chiropractor, before retiring to explore new careers as a Body Electric School trained Sacred Intimate, a Certified Sexological Bodyworker, a certified Surrogate Partner, and Somatic Sex Educator. Her explorations in somatic-based therapy, erotic arts and practices informed her creation of the framework, The Wheel of Consent®. Betty was instrumental in developing the Foundations of Facilitation training for Cuddle Party - an organization whose events teach about consent, boundaries, and communication for non-sexual situations. She now serves on their Board of Directors. Her 40 years as a hands-on professional include Network Chiropractic, Somato-Respiratory Integration, Educational Kinesiology, Neuro-Emotional Integration, and Reiki, and later sensual massage, Taoist erotic massage, Kashmiri tantric massage, Sexological Bodywork, and Surrogacy. As part of her work with the School of Consent, Betty travels around the world teaching practitioners how to create empowered agreements in their client sessions, in her highly sought-after training “Like A Pro: The Wheel of Consent for Practitioners.” Originally developed as an offering to teach much-needed consent skills to sex workers and touch providers - Like A Pro has extended to wider audiences and is now attended by somatic therapists, massage therapists, sexuality educators, medical and health care workers, activists, human resources folks - all of whom complete the training with a clear understanding of how consent starts with our own bodies, and then expands outwards into all forms of human relating, with or without touch. Betty resides in the Pacific Northwest. Her long-awaited book, “The Art of Receiving and Giving: The Wheel of Consent” debuts in 2021.
