Alexander was born in a small southern town named Crossville, Tennessee. He lived in this town while going to school, farming, and working at a rodeo until he was 17 years old. At that time, he made the bold decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman. Unfortunately, after several combat deployments and a meritorious promotion to NCO, his military career came to an unexpected halt thanks to a severe injury. Given that this was his lifelong dream, and that he had no plan B, this change in life direction threw him into a dark place. While in that place he became severely depressed, struggled to cope with his worsening PTSD, and eventually he turned to substance abuse as a form of self-medication after spending months debating taking his own life. After years of struggling with these issues, Alexander eventually enrolled in college. This pursuit of higher learning gave him the purpose he had lost after his separation from the military, and after his first semester he dove in with both feet earning a master’s degree in political psychology in just under 3 years. After embracing this new challenge, a challenge that allowed him to fight for what he believes in with words and research instead of a gun, Alexander has broken free from the demons that were holding him back and is currently pursuing a PhD in clinical psychology. He is active on all social media under the handle @authoralexoakes.
