About this listen
When her great-aunt dies, leaving The Yarn Barn in need of new management, Lucy Hawkins jumps at the opportunity to quit her stressful sales job. She moves to the quaint tourist town of Willow Vale, ready for a fresh start when she takes over the business. While introducing herself to her new neighbors, she meets Zeke, the owner of the occult shop next door. Friendly yet reserved, Zeke piques her interest, but he turns down her suggestion of a date.
Late one night, a frightening incident causes Zeke to reveal why he doesn’t want to risk getting too close to Lucy: he is possessed by a demon, an evil spirit that killed his grandfather several years earlier. Though he has been able to prevent it from harming anyone else since, he agonizes over what could happen if he loses control. Despite his worries, Lucy persists, and ultimately persuades him to allow her to provide the companionship he’s been too afraid to seek out.
They embark on a romantic relationship, with Zeke becoming the doting, compassionate partner Lucy has always dreamed of. The demon within him, however, remains a lingering concern, especially when it comes to intimacy and his fear for her safety. After a traumatic outburst, he vows to rid the world of the malicious force, even if it costs him his life. Lucy accepts his choice, but there’s one thing she needs from him before he carries out his plan. Can she convince Zeke to share every part of himself with her, demons and all?

ok
This book was okay. For me the story is too slow past. Nothing really special. Just you have someone who won't give up on someone she just meant and things she fell in love with.

Lucy
This is a short romance, with a small amount of paranormal. It started a little slow, but overall was entertaining. The characters were interesting and likeable. Lucy is an independent, strong willed lady, who goes after what she wants. He has a demon inside, this is where the paranormal come into play, however this really did not read like a true paranormal story to me. There were some sex scenes, but not to the point I consider it an erotic novel. Still, overall the book was a fun read.(listen to?) The narration was disappointing. I think the written story might be better than the audio book. The narration was inconsistent, and at times this made it difficult to listen to the story without having to change the volume settings. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Fun, conceptually...
The plot:
Not very plausible, but not sure if it was meant to be, being urban fantasy. I could roll with it, if there were continuity, but it just seemed like convenience was prioritized over continuity. However, still sort of fun—I think with stronger writing and better execution, it could've been an addictive read. The female lead was likable.
If this is your jam, I recommend going for print or eBook format instead of audio if you’re able..
Audio:
Awful. The narrator had a pleasant enough voice, from what I could tell—they opted to whisper on and off, and that took some getting used to. What I heard of her voice though, was fine. She wasn't as robotic as some narrators, so that would actually be great if it weren't for the poor overall sound quality.
- Volume fluctuated.
- Extraneous sounds were heard, on and off throughout.
- Narrator mostly whisper-spoke, then would sometimes switch to non-whispering or full-on whispering (not for character changes—I’m talking mid-word).
- Lots of breathy sounds and full-on panting could be heard at times.
- Noticeable quality changes were persistent, such as the narrator randomly sounding like she was in a tin can ... then not ... or under water ... then not.
Honestly, I'm not sure why anyone would find this end product to be acceptable for uploading to retailers—it's truly awful.
Based on this experience, I'm not open to reading anything else by this author, as if this is their idea of an acceptable level of quality, then their work clearly isn't for me. Appreciate the opportunity to learn that though.
The content was okay and would've been a lot easier to take if not delivered so poorly.
