About this listen

Forbidden love shouldn't feel so good. It also shouldn't hurt so much.

How could the one person I can't have be the only person I truly need?

Florian Harper Riley has my heart, and he doesn't even know it. I used to think that was okay, that I'd get over him, but no matter how hard I try, I can't purge his sharp green gaze from my thoughts. He's a tattoo artist, the love of my life, and the man of my dreams.

But he's also my stepbrother. Fate can be wicked cruel.

This is a full-length stand-alone novel from debut author Violet Blaze (and it's hot!)

Excerpt:

"Well, what are you waiting for, Abi? Take your pants off."

The words went straight through me, piercing my heart like an arrow. Between my legs, an insistent throbbing began that I didn't know how to control. Wow.

"All the way off?" I asked, knowing that was a stupid question. Florian laughed at me, hunching back over the table, pencil sliding across the page like it was nothing, like he could do this in his sleep.

"Unless you want to do it with your pants tangled around your ankles." The corner of his mouth twitched. "Which I'm not opposed to."

I huffed, knowing he was just teasing me and sat up, pulling off the gray leather boots I'd put on in an attempt to look somewhat stylish. Walking into this shop was like walking into a lion's den, one filled with gorgeous, perfectly put-together lionesses, dressed up like wafer thin models. I knew I'd never match up to them, no matter how hard I tried, but I couldn't seem to keep myself from trying. A pair of boots and some nice jeans weren't fooling anyone though; I had breasts and hips, and a stubborn layer of extra padding that nobody wanted to see. I knew I wasn't fat (I wasn't that delusional yet), but I also knew I wasn't winning any beauty contests.

Really liked this story

A little slow in the beginning, but then it took off, and I enjoyed it immensely. Well worth a credit. Great narration.

Highly Enjoyable

This is an author I have been actively reading for about a year now. She writes other genres and I have to say... for me... this was right up there with a rock band series she wrote. I had felt recently her stories weren’t holding up to the first series of hers I read... but this book? This book was even before the rock band series and it was just as good.

I’m beginning to believe that this author rocks at contemporary and it’s her paranormal or fantasy books that I struggle with and don’t think really showcase her true talent.

Because this book? Fantastic. And she got an awesome narrator to do it too. I enjoyed the narrator immensely, a new one for me. I didn’t like some of the way she “whisper” voiced characters, like Flor and River, but I understand how hard it is to commit to different voices.

The book itself was hooooooot as hell. The sexual tension and how well it was built up? Awesome. I got a little frustrated at times with all the crying the FMC did bit when you really thought about how long she’s loved this person, and how young she really is, it made sense. I just thought it was sweet, sexy, full of delicious angst, and had a great ending. It was so nice reading a stand-alone from this author.

I hope she goes back to contemporary again someday. I’m not gonna lie. I think that’s her niche and what she does best.

Had potential but didn't live up to it

This was okay, but I was hoping it would be better. The plot as a whole was good, the taboo of sleeping with your stepbrother, even though you aren't related by blood was interesting and Flor was pretty hot. I thought Abigail was annoying, she wanted Flor but was immature and didn't know how to handle her feelings. She was hot and cold and I wanted her to woman up lol. Flor could also be a dick for sure, cheating on his girlfriend and acting cold towards Abigail. They almost would be better off separate, but they have liked each other for a long time and sometimes they were cute together.
For some reason, there was a lot of cheating in this story and the fact that the characters just went with it was odd.
The smut was decent, I wanted more though! The narrator wasn't bad, but I wish we got Flor's point of view with a male reader. I think that would have made the story more interesting.

Almost didn't read, SO glad I'm did!

Was a pinch turned off by the whole stepbrother thing (having a stepbrother myself) but I could not stop listening to this book! The story combined with the narration was great! It was a bit over dramatic, and a little stalker-ish but she's 18 so it works well. I reccomend.

Stepbrother Inked

This was my first stepbrother trope. I enjoyed it. This book has a lot of angist. To watch the tension build made the ending just that much better. If you enjoyed a walk in the taboo side give it a try.

obsessive and cringey

Struggled to finish this one. It was redundant and Abby was obsessive. it was actually pretty cringey how obsessed she was.

Not my favorite story, but the writing is good.

I'm not much for the step-sibling romances, but sexy tattooed men get me every time. The cover of this book is what pulled me in, but the suspense and witty sarcasm are what kept me reading.

For the most part I really enjoyed the story, and it was well written. At times it was slow, and occasionally the main character, Abi, really got on my nerves. At one point she describes loving Flor from the minute she met him... well, she was 5, so no - that's ridiculous. If you want to tell me it started when they hit puberty or something, okay.

I liked it. I mean, it passed the time and kept me entertained and wanting to know what was going to happen, and that's the whole point of reading right?!

If your into the Stepbrother fad then this is definitely for you. If you enjoy a good romance story with a few steamy scenes, then I'd recommend it. But if your not into step-siblings, or drag queens for that matter, I'd steer clear of this book.

Really liked this story

I loved the characters, the plot, and the smut!! I just wish there had been a male narrator to do the male voices. No hate to the female narrator that did all the voices though, she did a great job.
